I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

If you like Sauvignon Blanc One I have recently enjoyed is Mud House Sauvignon Blanc from Waitrose £8.99 a bottle, although sometimes on offer. It's from New Zealand and has a really fresh, crisp taste.

David just brought a bottle, as a taster, from Morrison's for £7/bottle.  Will try it tonight

Try the Costiere de Nîmes from Aldi. A lot of depth for quite a cheap price. Our every day red at the moment.

Bought a bottle this morning from Aldi, looking forward to trying it tonight. smile Will report back.

Champagne for Christmas? Lidl have some in at 10.99, just bought some to try it. Epernay bottled, have friends who live near there, they've always been good at finding cheaper but drinkable stuff, hope this will be ok. smile

I've got my Nectar points saved up - just waiting for the next "buy 6, get 25% off" offer at our Sainsbury's and I'll be trying some of these suggestions!

Christmas Dinner is the one meal a year when I like to have bought a nice bottle of dessert wine - don't usually go for the sweet stuff, but with Christmas Pud, it's slips down nicely.(I do repeat the performance on New Year's day so I should have said "two" meals! wink)

I've got an unopened bottle of Santa Cristina Vino Santo, might give it a go after the pud this year. smile

I have a bottle of Campo Viejo Rioja, a full bodied red to go with my Christmas pudding. No-one else likes it so I'll have the whole bottle to myself.

For those who enjoy Sauvignon Blanc have you tried the Oyster Bay from NZ?

Posted on 22/12/2017 15:48

We're not much in the way of drinkers but I've yet to try an NZ wine that I didn't find palatable. Our son and future DIL look out for wines they know from NZ but wineries that export don't always retain the same name 😲. They've done some great bicycle winery tours over there.
