I thought airport security was supposed to be hot these days. Shocked to read this article on more than one level HERE

Firstly why weren't they found at check-in security check? If you weren't telling the airline why tell on your landing card, unless you know just how stringent NZ checks are? Why's it always a Brit?

No but believe me it'll be assumed. Regardless why weren't they picked up earlier?

By the time he stuck a couple of shells in his case, he couldn't have had much baggage allowance left for clothes. Just the sort of essential kit to take on holiday - not. Anyway did he deliberately ignore the "anything sharp, flaming, corrosive or goes bang" question?

They are tough at Auckland airport (and rightly so) or he was having a bad day, despite reading the inflight landing card my wife 'happened' to put an uneaten apple which was served onboard into my rucksack.

Obviously found it at check in by which time my wife had happily sauntered through, I got a real dressing down and threat of being refused entry. I did forgive her ...... eventually.

They certainly are tough at Auckland ๐Ÿ˜. I'd made wheat and lavender bags for my granddaughters, DIL2B grew the wheat I grew the lavender. Packed in suitcase, no further thought. Sniffer dog picked it up as we waited to pay tabaco duty, OH smokes a pipe unheard of over there. I had heat treated the wheat bags the dog handler was very pleasant. So easily done, but not a threat to other fliers like a couple of shells!

It does not say that the passenger was from a UK flightwink

I looked too JV, the passenger was inbound from Vanuatu a Pacific Ocean island East of Australia. I think B2 was funning around๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Just checked out the article again in Stuff as well as NZ Herald. Stuff has been amended since i read and posted, definitely claimed it was a Brit but didnt say where theyd flown from.

NZ Hearald says no prosecution likely as they were declared but are taking up the matter with Vanuatu.

Can't say it makes me any more confident flying!

I and MOH sashayed through with a packed lunch undeclared.

Got away with it. Apparently they don't like bananas,  meat products or cheese in their sandwiches.

Having watched the TV programmes, on NZ customs & immigration it now brings me out in a sweat every time.

Never have flown - most likely never will, and the negative news reports such as this only serve to further glue my feet to the ground.  Neither do I like the idea of being locked in a metal tube, the contraption filled up with high octane fuel, and then fired down a runway with the hope that it becomes airborne before it runs out of tarmac.
