Music - What Floats Your Boat?

Kinda surprised there doesn’t appear to be a thread on this.

I’ve always been a big music fan, a major part in my life. With all that’s going on, maybe folks out there have the same passion and would like to share it? If this thread takes off, we will get a ‘feel’ of what others like, and can make suggestions? As for my tastes, I guess they could be described generally as rock music, blues, folk and some classical. I was thinking that if we could limit it to the more obscure/less well-known tunes? No Beatles, ABBA, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers etc, we’ve all heard them already.

I’ll kick it off with this from Supertramp...

Adge Cutler & The Worzels? 'Don't Tell I, Tell Ee'

'I had a lift to town, with Good Old Farmer Brown, In a Ten Ton truck that were full of muck, and when he set I down, the barmaid Rose, she held her nose, I said 'Don't smell I, smell eee ...' sealed

Iam a bit different 55 years ago I used to have my dansette record player plugged into the light fitting ( no sockets in the attic) and played LPs by Charlie Parker, yes I listened to radio Luxembourg etc went to clubs but always fell asleep listening to the great Charlie Parker. I still listen still have my collection of his recordings but sadly no record player now, it is 100 years since he was born this year and I still find his recordings well worth a listen if you never have.

It depends what mood I'm in. Sometime I want to be soothed, or even made to cry. Sometimes if I'm angry and upset I want something really really loud. Sometime I just want something to sing along to (to my husband's chagrin, as I struggle to keep in tune).

I've always been a bit of a Folkie, and we go to lots of live gigs (now cancelled/rescheduled). This link is Oysterband that we've seen many times (and were to see this year) and it probably fits into all the categories above.

I enjoy a wide range of easy listening and pop music.  Being in my 80’s, a lot of my music tastes are in the 50’s and 60’s.  What I have noticed is that a lot of good music of those times has been ignored by the BBC and the like.  I have always felt that if you can’t whistle a particular ‘tune’ whilst you worked, then it isn’t music.   Short, repetitive lines and raucous ‘yah, yah, yahs’ is not music.  Thank heaven for my ageing CD collection!

My preferences are for blues or rock based music. I used to play guitar in a local pub band and like & appreciate these bands, some we have even seen live :  Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Status Quo, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits, Genesis, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Small Faces, Canned Heat, The Who, The Eagles and The Pogues…
