Norfolk Coastline

At this time of the year most of the visible wildlife action will be migration of birds, mostly incoming to our shores. Cley nature reserve run by Norfolk Wildlife Trust is not far from Holt and is an excellent place to start. You can make a circular walk of the reserve and in recent years it has expanded towards Salthouse. The beach areas are good for birds such as Snow Buntings and sometimes Shore Larks at this time of year and there will be Gannets and Brent Geese off shore. The reserve centre also does a decent coffee and bite to eat.

If you walk from Cley village around the marsh area to Blakeney you can often look at the birds on the marshes and may come across Spoonbills or Barn Owls. We've seen both in October. 

Kelling heath doesn't have so many birds and reptiles at this time of year but you never know what may turn up.

Seal trips will still be going on from Morston out to Blakeney Point. They will just have pupped so should be interesting.

If there has been any small bird migration then Holt Wood also makes for a good walk around.

Basically follow the coast from Cley around to Snettisham and you will see plenty of birds.  A nice little reserve is at Sculthorpe, just out of Fakenham on the Kings Lynn road.

Thank you both. We will actually be staying at Kelling Heath and have been told the wildlife is visible right outside the lodge. Cley nature reserve sounds ideal. I will google all the options tonight and do my homework. We’re really looking forward to a break. The binoculars are packed. 😊

Go to Horsey Gap.......you won't believe how many seals will be lying on the beach.  All free, no boat trip, may even see some birds.

The trip we make to Suffolk and Norfolk each spring is always a delight. So many places to visit, RSPB have many many places that you will enjoy and want to return to year after year. Oneput and Grey lag have good advice. Horsey Gap was a place GL recommended to us a few years ago and we now visit each year.

I am sure you will have more than enough to see. Enjoy.
