When out waking two days ago I spotted 5 Grey Herons in a field close to a small stream, so wondered if it was a family, adults and 3 fully grown fledglings.
There are a family of foxes living close to the CL we are on, and use it as their toilet, and I spotted one the other night when coming back from our last night, and then last night saw a Tawney Owl which sat in an oak watching us pass below.

Had a call this morning from a birding pal, to say that 2 avocets had been seen on Foulridge resser. We never get avocets in East Lancashire, so had a stroll over there. And there they were, showing very nicely.
A good one for the local list. 🙂
Also heard quite a few willow warblers singing, seems unusual for August. 🤔

We're saying farewell to the Swallows, they're gathering on the wires over our garden, chattering away, the odd Swift joining in. They're having a big feed up over the local fields One or two late nesters are remaining but the majority are off on their long journey. A bit like everyone leaving a camp site!

The wife and I stood looking out the kitchen window the other day watching a buzzard devouring a woodpigeon on our lawn he was there for sometime before flying off with the remains of the pigeon, it has now cleared up why we have in the past found pigeon feathers in our garden
