Posted on 07/08/2022 08:57 by BurgundyI thought motorhomes were booking serviced pitches to guarantee a hardstanding? Presumably this will change under the new booking system when there is a choice of surface type.

I've never understood why motorhomes use serviced pitches unless that is all that is offered as on some sites. Those long stayers with small tanks may have some excuse but even if that was me, I would still not use a serviced pitch given options.

Posted on 07/08/2022 09:58 by SteveLWe don’t all spend lots of time on our computers, so sometimes using the handbook to see where club sites are in a particular area is quicker than turning on computer etc.
A lot do. My pad / phone is always on. Just have to press a button to access the web site. Even the new fangled Mac boots up in 15 seconds. Unfortunately for those who prefer handbooks I think they are going the way of the Dinosaurs. Perhaps not as rapidly as a meteor strike😉 but certainly in the next 5 / 10 years.

Out of season, some private Sites will park you up anywhere, serviced or not for same price. We stayed in South Wales at a small private Site one November. Owner told us to park up at top on serviced pitches, as views were better, and closer to dog walk. Other than washing out dog bowls, I don’t think we used tap on pitch. I recall it was £14 a night, with hook up.

Unfortunately, what many seem not to acknowledge is that there are many places that have no or very poor phone signals. I've been to several caravan sites, mainly CLs admittedly, where this has been the case. In those instances, what does one do? Drive around for miles until a signal is hopefully picked up or revert to looking at information on paper be it maps or handbooks etc. There are also the instances when a phone battery dies because it hasn't been charged. It does happen. It is an interesting fact, as stated on a programme on TV recently, that in this so called 'paperless society' the use of paper is actually on the increase.

It is still only value for money and location that is driving us at the moment as it has always done, luckily expense is not entering the equation. After 2 years of Covid we like many others I would assume have saved a 'pretty penny' by deciding to stay at home, I know we have.

Posted on 07/08/2022 08:21 by Rocky 2 buckets+1, a person needs to be seriously wealthy to ignore cost vs value & if a person really is that rich would they own a LV for touring?

Posted on 07/08/2022 10:12 by peedeeHardly a really good reason Steve. Most motorhomes need to level up even on level pitches.

90% of the time front to back can be sorted out by the direction we drive on the pitch. As JVB mentions ours has a nose down attitude. Most, even supposedly level, pitches dip slightly front / back or back front to aid drainage. We don’t mind facing the neighbours,😀 if it means we are level.
