Dropped item in fresh water tank

Whilst filling up the water tank in an Auto trail tribute t 615 this morning the tap adaptor came of the hose and went down into the water tank.

Any ideas on how to try and retrieve this would be very helpful.

Many thanks,

. David

Our water tank has got a large cap in the top of it 12 cm or more across.  Not really investigated yet, as we have only had the MH 9 months, but I assume this unscrews for cleaning purposes. There is also one in the top of the waste tank. I would assume, although may be wrong, there must be some sort of access for cleaning.

What material is it made of? If it's plastic  I would tend to ignore it and get another. If metal is it alloy or steel? Steel you could try fishing with a magnet as it's going to rust eventually but if alloy  I wouldn't worry as per plastic.

That's great and reassuring. It's made of plastic and came from a flat food hygiene hose.

Many thanks for your reply - much appreciated,

As the item is plastic there is a chance that it might float. If you bung up the overflow and fill the tank until it washes fast out of the filler neck, it may just float out!

It may depend on the angle you're parked, but compared to the other options it may be worth a go, depending on how lucky you're feeling!

Water tanks usually have access to them which would allow you to get your hand into. My first motorhome had a large screw cap and the second one has a removable section see photos below. Both would allow access.

I think its probably an underslung tank but on some there is access to flush/clean using a hose
