It really depends on the purpose of the deposit? Is it just to make sure the bottles are recycled or are they reused? The latter being the most eco solution but they have to be made stronger in the first place which probably means the use of more plastic and energy to make them! I will admit we used to use bottled water all the time and still do in the van. However for home we changed to refillable glass the ones with the spring top (£2.50 each in Morrisons) like you often see in restaurants these days. So in the last year we have probably saved 200/250 plastic bottles. I just have to be brave enough to do the same on campsites but remain uncertain when I see how some of our fellow campers treat drinking water taps!

Looks like I was wrong DD but the Blue I have does not contain formaldehyde. Blue with formaldehyde is consider environmentally unfriendly and has definitely been removed or much reduced in toilet products. So the tip is seek out toilet chemicals without it.
Here is a list of formaldehyde free toilet fluid courtesy of MMM:
Blue Bio
Dometic GreenCare tabs
Dometic PowerCare tabs
Elsan Organic
Elsan Boatkem
Fenwicks Top & Tail
Olpro Bottom & Top
OLChem
OLRinse
Aqua Kem Green
Towsure Toilet Green
Blue Diamond When Nature Calls
Maypole Eco-Friendly
Kampa Green
Aqua Kem Blue does apparently contain some but I am pretty sure the content has been reduced over the years. Its not the same stuff I used when I first started caravanning.

Someone did comment on coasting down hill
In addition to safety, the other reason not to coast in neutral is that you will use more gas than coasting in gear. In modern computerized automobiles, the engine can cut off fuel if there is low load or no load on the engine. ... Because you are in gear, the wheels will keep turning the engine so that it doesn't stall
