Guidance needed please

A certain event, which will soon happen, is going to affect the way many of us like to spend our time caravanning and motorhoming outside the UK. This is a matter of interest - importance even - to many members of the Club and of CT.

At the moment, it seems there will be regulations which will impact on, and have implications for, those of us who like to travel for longer periods. A recent thread on the topic was closed.

I am not calling into question the decision to close that thread (although I was finding it useful), but to ask where might we discuss such matters?  Mulling things over, and trying to help each other clarify what is meant as each announcement is made is useful and helpful, as we are sharing information with like minded people.

So where please, and how, as updates are very likely to be made available with increasing regularity over the next few months, can we share information and tease out the ends together? Are we able to do this on CT? Or do we need to turn to other forums where we can help one another?

Guidance would be most welcome. Many thanks.

WTG I was also finding the information useful on the thread you speak of.

Hopefuly we will be kept well informed by both the authorities and CC.

I do read the updates from the relevant government websites. But sharing experiences with fellow travellers about how they managed; whether or not they applied for an ETIAS; how the '90 day in 180' rule worked for them, will be invaluable. I suppose I am seeking guidance for future discussions as events (and regulations) unfold.

Way to Go I share your interests and questions regarding travel guidance etc but I don't think the club or any of us can do much until we get nearer a formal date. Did you know the club have been trying to update the information presently available. See this LINK (club info on travelling after Brexit.) The other site being continually updated is the Gov.uk Brexit site which you mentioned and this contains reams of information and possible outcomes but even that can't truly be relied on till we get to the exit dates and agreements.

edit I see the club have included "useful links" to the gov. web site and also to Abta.

Yes, totally aware of all that. I have also been in touch with our MP and MEPs. Announcements re visas and time permitted to travel are being made now.

My point is that sharing experiences with those who are going through the procedures is more valuable, and gives more useful firsthand insights, than reading official documents.

As the thread to which I made reference has been closed, I am asking for some guidelines for the future so that we, who do travel outside the UK frequently, and for long periods of time, might exchange tips / give clarification / notify of any holds ups and snags for the benefit of fellow members.

Or do we just avoid the topic altogether on CT lest it contravene T&Cs and use other Forums? That would be a shame though as it is a topic so relevant  to so many of this Club's members.

The guidance I seek now is about what we might discuss on CT in the weeks ahead, and not about the situation per se.

There was another thread going that covered this topic but I can't find it, I can't remember if it was closed, strayed off topic or is still open? Maybe someone can dig it out. I had a quick look for it but can't find it.

Edit.  Found it, look in the overseas section. I think there may be others. If folks don't start adding personal political comments perhaps new threads will survive?

I think you are referring to the thread I have recently closed in the Overseas Touring section. Couple of things I would say about that thread. Firstly there was no relevant or useful information posted in the original post and on reflection I should have perhaps closed the thread immediately. However the reason it was closed was one member started to voice a personal opinion about elements of us leaving the EU this is what is not allowed in any discussion on this subject.

As I mentioned when I closed the tread there is not ban on talking about the effects of Brexit on us travelling abroad or providing useful and factual information on how that might impact on fellow travellers to Europe and there probably a few threads on the subject that are still open but have slid down the listing because of lack of contributions.

I do appreciate that the time is getting closer with apparently no settled way forward and members will be worried, especially if their start or return coincides with the end of March. If you can come up with a catchall  thread to cover all elements please feel free to post and perhaps we could look to make it sticky?

WTG, I have reported your OP as a means of asking for clarification on whether such topics may be discussed.

Hope that’s OK with you.

Fine, thank you. I was minded to report  my own OP, but had not got around to it.

Edit to say I posted before I saw that David K had posted a response.

Thank you.

Yes, it was that thread. I had been careful to avoid the B word in my posts and was interested in the latest announcements re visas, and in posts about the '90 days in 180' and so on.

Whichever way one voted; whatever one thinks about the result, is now immaterial as, regardless of opinion, we will all be affected by the new regulations for travel and we need to understand the implications and act accordingly. Hearing from others how they have fared will be helpful.

A catchall thread... that's hard. I will ponder. My MP has asked a few questions on my behalf  and I am hoping for a reply from him, or from the relevant minister. Maybe I'll wait until I have something on which to report??? Or maybe someone can come up with one???

Unfortunately, we don’t seem able to report our own posts, WTG.
