My first outing this year was to Wirral Country Park. Plotting my route I discovered that the 2019/20 edition of the Sites Directory had omitted all map references. The only directions to the site were from the motorway, not the best or most direct route for me.
Returning home I wrote to the club expressing my disappointment at this omission but was told that most people use Satnav and they thought that the space generated by the omission was worth it. They also added that map references were still available for club sites on line.
Not everyone has satnav or indeed a computer and more importantly there is no way to discover the map reference of a CL.
Recently I had booked in at a CL only to find the road to the site blocked by roadworks and no diversion signs. I drove on and pulled up in a layby to telephone the farm, but received no reply. Not surprisingly everyone was working out on the farm.
Fortunately when I discovered the map ref. omission in January, I retained the 2017/18 copy of the sites directory which lives in the van. Using this I was able to plot an alternative route.
The amount of space saved is minimal - 20 characters or 28 if you use the words OS Map ref.
Without exception every club site entry could accomodate this as could the majority of the CLs
If it increases the size of the directory by a couple of pages, that is what directories are for. Whilst I might have all map references as of 2016, I could be barred from new entries.
Could we all please request the inclusion of map refs. in the 2021/22 edition of our directory, after it is supposed to offer information for ALL club members.
