Stars, Signs and Symbols

I understand how you get stars in posts but can someone explain: 

What are the stars for underneath the profile when you go to the reviews?

How have I managed to get a 'helpful' vote - it apprears under the profile picture in the reviews section, but as I can't seem to give anyone else a helpful vote, how have they given me one?

Jus curious.
