Club Car Insurance

Having recently been notified of my car insurance coming up for renewal, I was surprised when I received the quote for the following year (Aug. 2019/20).

It was the first time I have used the Caravan & Motorhome Club for car insurance. In the past they have been too expensive. But last year they came up trumps when I wanted to insure my Ford Kuga at £365.00. So I took out the policy. During the year my wife had a mishap with the car and reversed into a post whilst manoeuvring. This resulted in a claim costing around £1000.00. First claim in a clean driving career of around 40 years. So when I received the quote of £985.00 for the following year, I could not quite believe it. I rang up Devitt (the clubs insurance brokers) and questioned the amount. The reply was, it was due to this claim and they could not do anything to adjust the price. I noticed that L.V were the company Devitt were using. Noting this, I went direct to L.V. declaring the mishap and received an on line quote of £434.00. So it seems to me Devitt were after making a handsome profit out of my wife’s mishap.  Needless to say I am not using the Caravan & Motorhome Club insurance, now or ever again.

I thought we were supposed to receive preferential rates for  Caravan & Motorhome Club members for using their services, or am I wrong.?

I have since gone with Swiftcover at £370.0 with similar benefits and only £350 excess instead of £400.

I just wondered if other members have had similar experiences.?

I take it that you had not lost your No-Claims Discount due to the accident?

That's seems a really good price. I've never been able to get a quote below £300 in the past.with a clean driving record.

.Which company is that with?

Just checked. Memory was out slightly it was £178 with  Insurer
CIS General Insurance Limited through RAC with 60 days EU cover and £300 excess with protected no claims.

Not an RAC member as I use Mayday from Greenflag through CC

We checked out the club's insurance for our new car, it was 3 times the amount of Saga.

We have not found the club good for either car or caravan insurance in quite a few years now, we always check but its just not competitive.

Some companies are a little cheaper than our Saga policy but they don't give us the amount of European cover that we require. Also Saga haven't messed us around trying to get a green card.

Thank you for all your responses.

I find it never simple nowadays to find good reasonable car insurance. Always having to chase around for quotes. There was a time, back in the 70's & 80's when I stuck with the same insurance broker year after year. Always receiving a quote near or sometimes cheaper than the previous years premium.

How times change. !! Or is it me in my advancing years!!!!!!
