Does any one know what s/c means?

I'm guessing s/c means self catering. There have been a number of requests for CLs which have such facilities adjacent for family members without vans to join others etc.

As for your second point, we have used several CLs over the past couple of years and I can only remember 1 with more than 5 outfits and that was because they had a second field. Whether or not that's in the spirit of the law I don't know and it certainly didn't bother us because the site concerned had plenty of space and the facilities (which were excellent) were never overstretched. 

CL's should not generally accept more than 5 units.  If you find that there are CL's who are breaking this condition, please report this to the Club direct, so that they can investigate it.

The Club (and other authorised organisations) are only allowed to authorize 5-unit sites.  If owners break the condition, they put the whole system in danger.

Bet no one can beat 14 vans on a CL.

29 July 1990 in Dorset - booked a CL prior to the Poole - Cherbourg crossing and found on arrival there were already 13 vans on. According to my 'nerd' file (as better half calls it) I wrote to the Club. No idea of the reply. 

 Hopefully this maybe moved to the Certificated Locations section by a moderator!
Agree with DSB report the site to the Club.

Apparently an operator can be issued with a certificate by more than one organisation, and there are around 1200 organisations that can issue a certificate, so the theoretical maximum must be around 6,000 caravans, and even more tents.  Some site!

Not on a CL but I can on at least 3 CSs I can, not including the tents.

It’s perfectly allowable for a location to have a CL, plus a separate CL, a separate CS, or a private site adjacent. The crux of the argument is if the correct applications, be it to Club or LA have been obtained. A lot of CLs also offer cottages, shepherds huts, yurts, pods and glamping pods.

S/c probably means there is a self catering unit (cottage usually) also on the site. But it won’t mean they share the toilets......🙄

Thank you for your views......It isn't just one site....we have found this on quite a few CL sites as have our friends. So it would appear to be quite  common to find more than 5 caravan/motor homes.on CL sites.

I have written to the club to ask their views but haven't mentioned any particular sites....I'm still waiting for a reply !

Just looked through my sites book and as a couple of others have said s/c adj means self catering holiday cottage/unit adjacent.

It would appear that this does not include B&B's as the sites that I know to have a B&B do not list s/c adj.

Of the other clubs CS's that I mentioned in my earlier post, one regularly declares his CS to be a rally field. I pass this every day at work and the most vans counted was 29.

Another that we have stayed on, every weekend we stayed have 15-20 vans on site from their storage (in use) plus tents.

The third, (a Bank Holiday weekend) had a grand total of 36 units on site which consisted of caravans, motorhomes, trailer tents and tents.

The Club is given an exemption under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 to certificate a land owner to have no more than 5 vans on their CL site. If a site has this exemption they are not allowed another one from any other organisation who can also certificate a site.

The owner may get a Commercial License from their Local Authority to have a commercial site but these need to be away from the CL and they can not share the same facilities (CCEP, Water taps) or drive through the CL to get to the site.

We have over 2,200 CL sites on our network and a small team to monitor these sites. We do rely on CL Members to report any rule breaks so these can be investigated. We do require feedback in writing with the name and postcode of the site (all feedback is confidential). As DSB mentioned these rule breaks are taken very seriously as they can put our ability to Certificate sites at risk.
