I'm looking for quotes for my 1yr old Coachman Vision 640/6.  It's a new for old policy, insuring the caravan for £20k.  My renewal quote came through from Coast vis my broker and they want £389 but a search of the comparison sites gets me a quote for £187 with a company called Frank Pickles.  Problem is i've never heard of them and can't seem to find any information on whether they are any good.  I don't want to make an expensive mistake if I need to claim on the policy but I also don't want to pay double if not necessary.

My current broker has basically implied that the policy must be rubbish if it's that cheap but a review of the policy booklet shows the same cover as i'm currently getting.

Does anyone have any experiences?

Caravan club quoted nearly £500.

The quote is almost too good to be true and I would ask who the insurer is as Frank Pickles is a broker not an insurer. I got several quotes at renewal this year and for a slightly lower sum did not get a quote that low. If you find out who the company is you can check them out on the Ombudsmans web site. Look at the percentage of cases found in favour of the complainer. The highed this figure is the more I would worry.

Reading a policy is not easy. The policies may look to give the same cover but exclusions and conditions can vary in detail so be careful on that one. Policies should have a DEFACTO five star rating, if it does not avoid it. Even with the rating you still get variations in service and interpretation of the policy.

I am not saying do not take it but I would probably not as you tend to get what you pay for although there are exceptions. If you are tempted do more homework.

I was worried it might be too good to be true.

From looking at the policy booklet online I think the Underwriter is Ageas but I've not heard of those either. I've just done a quick Google and the reviews are pretty poor.

I think I will go with the renewal recommended by my usual broker.

my insurance is due in next few weeks. just had c.c quote and as usual shopped around before renewing. found a like for like quote from another reputable source, £155 cheaper than c.c .have been loyal club member for years but this really makes me think.

The best insurer is the one that pays out without hassle, we had a major accident in Italy this year with the caravan written off and the car severly damaged, Saga were superb all the way, not the cheapest but supportive and quick, from accident to being paid was 5 weeks,

"Frank Pickles"......wasn't he a character in the Vicar of Dibley???Happy

Exactly my first thought HD.  That's why I came to have a look - to see if it needed moving to the entertainment section.  Laughing

If it's too good to be true it often is- isn't that what they say? Since having my van stolen from a bronze CaSSOA in 2013 and seeing at first hand how the club dealt with my claim, I wouldn't go anywhere else! I KNOW my  pride and joy is properly insured for every eventuality. For a few quid I was even able to insure my non EHU system - SP, inverter and extra battery etc, which would cost me a pretty penny if I had to put it on another van from scratch.

I wish I could get an inexpensive policy just to Cover my caravan for fire theft and storm damage because it's on a seasonal pitch where it is also stored on hard standing during the winter so it never goes anywhere and there is no possibility of a traffic accident but I still have to buy a policy that covers all of that.

Try a specialist broker - such as the one in the title.

This is a company which started off in our local town, and has been around for years and years and years and is still in the same office.  It's not one of these mega-corporations with anonymous staff, and banks of computers running the operation, but local people who care about their jobs and their customers.
