Motorhome Insurance refunds ?

In this current lockdown situation, a few big-name insurance companies are giving a proportional refund ( 1 month's premium) of vehicle insurance, due to the greatly reduced risk of a claim.

While the requirement for insurance even while parked up is recognised,  due to potential fire/theft/loss etc, then this gesture needs to be fully taken advantage of. Apparently most companies will consider a refund but only if specifically requested.

The more that motorhomers and caravanners lobby their insurers on this, the greater chance of a refund being offered and also narrows down the potential list when time for renewal comes !

I have since written to all my insurers - motorhome and cars- but await a reply.

Please share any feedback.

Thanks

Not only Motorhome Insurance but caravan insurance as well. There must be people who have annual travel insurance, maybe on the back of bank accounts, who must feel that they are paying for nothing at present.

I'm not that bothered though about my caravan insurance having had a total loss last year. Think I've had my monies worth one way or another.

I have just received my caravan insurance renewal from CMHC and it has risen by 5% despite no changes or claims. A complete rip off. I shall be looking elsewhere

My M/H insurance was due on the 7th May and had gone up £34 from last year, which really annoyed me as I have not had any change to my circumstances. The insurance company (not the CMHC)  phoned me about it and I told them I would let them know when or if I wanted to renew it, as I did not want to insure it when I wasn't using it.  They phoned me back the following week and had knocked off £24 from the renewal quote but I really don't want to renew until I am actually using the van again but they e-mailed and phoned me nearly every day so perhaps a lot of people are cancelling or not renewing at the moment.  My van is 16 years old and at the moment is parked up the drive with either my or my daughter's car parked behind it. I am an optomist and am hoping that it won't be too long before we can use our vans again but if not, will have to review the insurance and tax situation at a later date.

A few days ago I had an email from Admiral for our car insurance and I was told that I would be receiving a refund of £25 per car (multi car policy) by the end of May and that I personally had to take no further action. Apparently due to a reduction in the number of claims.

Looks like a good deal, JVB, if all the conditions are the same as your old one.

I see on other strands people getting really high renewal quotes. I was new to MH last year so haven't used it much at all and just got my renewal from SAGA. I originally took up an offer to fix for second year and so my Fully Comp insurance was £365 for my 2007 Hymer B514SL so not sure if others think this is competitive or not?

I see a lot talk about Red Pennant too and so will look at that as well because hopefully in the next 12 months we will get to do our trip in Europe.

If anyone has any further ideas on insurance glad to hear them.

You still have risks like fire or vandalism. Whilst it's not in its first flush of youth, it still has a value.

Good point, a few weeks ago our neighbours Motorhome parked on their drive was destroyed by fire.
