Tap lime scale

Just thought this may work on your old limescale tap aerator.  When needed we use Distilled Vinegar (looks like water) from supermarket to get rid of limescale in our metal kettle.   Approx 1 tbsn swished around and left for about a minute or so then rinsed.

If you have lime scale on your taps would you not also have it on the heating elements of your hot water system?

This might suggest that an overall de-scaling is necessary.

I am about to try doing that by tipping a cup load of de-scaler down the water inlet pipe, followed by say 3 or 4 litres of water to see if that would cure my caravan's 'Kettling', problem.

Has anyone any do's or don'ts in this respect?

We have Alde heating and so the 'element' does not contact the water directly. When we experienced kettling it was due to too low a proportion of inhibitor in the heating system. Not sure when else you might get kettling. I suppose it must be from an element in the plastic hot water store? If so I suspect dislodged limescale would find its way to the taps if vinegar is followed by pumping water in unless dropping through drain tap.

We only find this a problem in hard water areas, mainly East Anglia.

We use Oust to descale the kettle. Did have a similar problem in Germany last year and used a similar product, found in most supermarkets.

 It pays to remove the aerator on a regular basis too,it can effect the water flow ,and clean it out .

Maybe a silly question, but how do you remove the aerator to clean it?

The one’s in the OPs first post are screwed off. You can clearly see the threads on the right hand side of one of the photos. Doesn’t mean they all screw out though, depending on make of tap. Simply putting these into a cup of white vinegar would descale them, rather than replace, if careful. Don’t leave in too long👍 

Truma actually recommend de-scaling the boiler, I think, every six months.  I bought 10 litres of distilled vinegar to do ours - put in aquaroll and filled up with fresh water and then filled the water / heating system as normal. Leave for a few hours and then flush out. I did it because the water wasn't heating up as hot as it had done and this was one suggested remedy. I have to say, it made no difference because the actual problem was that one of the new heating elements fitted a few weeks earlier had failed again!

If you fancy a bit of descaling then have a close look inside your toilet waste container.
