Easter weekend

We stayed over the Easter weekend for four nights, the grassed area was particularly wet, though given the amount of rain recently this was no surprise. The hard standing pitches are slightly different to what some people might be used to, but once you get your head round the signage and realise which is a pitch and which is a parking space there is plenty of space. We had the pitch on the far side from the gate, which was sufficient for our eight foot wide caravan and large awning, it was nice to have a designated parking spot. The site is quiet with spectacular views and there is easy access to the local area. Vicki made us feel very welcome. The fresh eggs are well worth trying, though I wish the ducks had been a bit more productive during our stay!🤣

An awesome little site with beautiful views

I have to say the previous negative view of the site is really not at all fair. This is a lovely site on a working farm, the pitches are not as big as some sites but there were 4 large caravans 2 of which had large awnings and room for parking whilst we were there at the Easter weekend. We were in a small motorhome so selected the smallest pitch leaving more space for caravans with cars. The owners are super friendly and couldn't me more welcoming. This site closes during winter and this week was the first week it had been open for tourers, some weeds had grown into the hard stand but nothing that was a problem. There were lovely little benches and seats around and a nice picnic bench in the middle of the grass with a pretty garden feature. Yes the grass was sodden, but it hasn't stopped raining for nigh on six months on and off! The lovely friendly hens and ducks wandered round the pitches during the day which was lovely to see and the site was one of the most peaceful I have ever stayed on, we loved it. Please do not be put off by one negative review. This site really is a little gem if you love the peace and quiet of the countryside! We hiked in the nearby Gisburn Forest and visited all the lovely villages and towns around and took home some delicious free range eggs. What more could you want, we will definitely be back!

Not as described

I do not like to leave negative or unnecessary reviews. However this site needed an honest review from ourselves. We arrived on site and found a pitch. Our initial impression was one of disappointment and this did not change we booked for 6 nights but left after 4. We had seen the pictures and the reviews but once on site we could not reconcile reality to reviews we had read and even wondered if we were in the right place. The size of the pitches were small and the side near the water tap there were 4 pitches but in reality probably the size of 2 pitches if using caravan club guidelines. Fire break was non existent and no room for an awning as no space for car, the cars not a not allowed on the grass. ( that made sense due to weather but it’s a sign that’s been up for some time). The pitch we were initially went on had insufficient hard standing and the tiny piece of grass at the side completely sodden, no chance of getting the awning up. I know no one can help the rain. We moved to a side pitch (2 side by side) as we were with our friend who brought her own van we we managed to get our porch awning up but our friend the the van next to us could not as no room to get passed with the car, she parked her car in an empty pitch. Couldn’t use the dog walk with the ground being so wet. So had to use local roads to walk dogs though these were fairly quiet. I can’t fault the friendliness of the owners but the site is very tired and needs completely revamping and reconfiguring of the layout. The views were stunning and we had the resident chickens and ducks for company which we didn’t mind but We won’t be going back or recommending this site

Response from the CL Owner

I hope your journey home went well.

Thank you for the review. Unfortunately we have had months of rain that we could not foresee and also stopped us from doing the usual weed killing and general maintenance. All the ground is saturated.
The layout of the caravan site has been the same for 24 years. We haven’t had complaints regarding parking and siting the caravans.
The space where your friend put her caravan is not a caravan plot. It is a space designated for your vehicle.
As your friends had already pitched their caravan we agreed it would be ok. Also the top 3 plots where you parked your car is only a plot for the car for the caravan what would be in the plot to the left. So on the top there is 3 caravan pitches.
We have had twin axle caravans on every pitch sometimes with an awning.
Also we don’t have a designated dog walk area. I kindly offered the use of one of our fields but did explain it was muddy and you would need the correct footwear
Kind regards Vicki and Phil @Acrehill

Just Perfect!

Stayed here for 2 nights in September and it was just perfect. If you want tranquility and calm away from the hustle and bustle of life then this is for you. The lovely young family that run this CL were so lovely and welcoming. Genuinely nice people. They also have holiday cottages and even showed us around one that is currently being renovated - beautiful. They kept the site beautifully clean and tidy. Gorgeous farm eggs for sale, apple tree in the middle of the pitches, family of ducks and hens who slept next to our van (and I think under our van one night when the weather was bad) - so wonderful to watch them waddling across the field. Beautiful views and walks. Super clean site with EHU, fresh water. black and grey waste disposal /water/bins. Great location for would be mountain bikers with Gisburn Forest close by. Would highly recommend and hope to return!

A beautiful site

Located in a very beautiful area this site is great for exploring this unique area. My only small point is for longer caravans entry and exit is ok but you need to be careful. The welcome was excellent .

A Little Oasis.

We'd never been to the Forest of Bowland before with the caravan, and what a lovely area it is and well worth a visit. It's often passed by for the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales. As a previous review has said, some of the approach roads are a little narrow in a few places, but we got in and out (with a wider caravan) without any issues, just make sure you follow the directions given and not a sat-nav which is likely to take you via some totally inappropriate lanes. The CL, which is almost like a "garden" is very secluded and has lovely views over the surrounding countryside. All pitches are hardstanding and although sloping, it's not difficult to level the outfit. The facilities are very accessible and kept nice and clean. Owners Vicki and Phil were most helpful and work very hard to keep the CL garden-like, and were very keen to make sure that we wanted for nothing. We enjoyed sitting at the provided picnic table soaking up the atmosphere on our final day (when the sunshine came out). A lovely CL run by lovely people! Despite the weather being mixed, we had plenty to see and do in the area, and although we were there for ten days, barely scratched the surface of what there is to see. The Spread Eagle Inn at nearby Sawley serves lovely food and is in a pretty setting adjacent to the River Ribble. I'm sure we'll return for more R&R!

Beautiful Site

Our first time in this area but won't be our last. We stayed for 6 nights at Acre Hill, over the Coronation Weekend. The road from Clitheroe is narrow in places, probably no more than 200 yards out of 3 miles though, certainly better than many we've been down before. Vicky had already told us to choose a pitch and park up so we made sure the van was facing the stunning views, the field in front, covered in flowers, was a source of much enjoyment for us as we saw more wildlife than we have ever seen before, we also enjoyed the chickens and ducks wandering around. The site is so peaceful and quiet, we had no or very little internet connection but this was not a problem for us. The welcome we received was outstanding, the owners work very hard and are extremely friendly. We couldn't fault this site or the area, we will definitely be back.

Peaceful and our the way

Had a very pleasant stay here, wonderful views to look out to and loads of walks to go. It was well maintained. The road in for the last view miles is a little tight but quiet and we didn't have a problem. The chickens and ducks enjoy marching around, getting everywhere they can. The downside to our stay would have to be the grey waste disposal, it is about 2ft of the ground and if you have a full tank to go into it, it can prove challenging. This is the only reason we have rated it 4 out of 5. A drain in the floor would be much appreciated. We would 100% stay here again, even though it rained most of the weekend it was still a great base to go off and do some very enjoyable walks then return and look at them views when your tucking into tea!

Stunning scenery, lovely site.

Just got back from this wonderful CL. Really couldn't fault it...the site is super, quiet and very well kept. The views from the pitches are stunning, and the bird life (Curlew, Lapwing, Chickens and Ducks) is abundant. Also spotted hares on the lanes. Vikki the owner is great and really friendly...love the new 'rustic' bench! The site is well located for some superb walking and there's lot's to do in the area. Clitheroe is lively and Pendle Hill and its witches are a short drive away. Local pub used was the Spread Eagle in Sawley. Good food, reasonably priced. Great beer. We'll be back to this excellent site as soon as possible. Thanks Vikki, a great 4 nights stay!
