Quiet and peaceful retreat

Stayed for 11days, without doubt quiet and peaceful. dog walking this year seems to be restricted to the woodland walk as fields are not cut. SNP requirement?? One thing which requires one to be very careful is the entrance. It is quite narrow and when leaving it requires extreme care. I was about an inch or so too far to the right and removed the rear corner of our brand new van which kind of spoilt our enjoyable stay. Owners very friendly as was everyone on the site while we were there.

Beautiful cl-good value for money.

We used this cl as a stopover but would stay longer. Easy to find and good access from lane.Owner very friendly. The grass pitches look across to woods at the side of the owners garden. Very quiet and peaceful. Lovely dog walk through the woods to the river where a conveniently placed seat allows time to watch the world go by and wait for the appearnce of kingfishers and otters.Clean and tidy toilet facilities. A great find-will definitely re-use.

A Lovely peaceful retreat

We needed a quiet get away, and Ashieburn House came up trumps.   Easy to find.   Tight entrance. But what a lovely setting.  By a river with Kingfishers and otters, with a field of buttercups gently sloping to the river.   Lovely short dog walks from the van - but need the car for anything longer. Owners rarely to be seen; honesty box for fees. Nice clean loo, if required.  Would stay again.

Dogs Welcome

We choose quiet sites where dogs are welcome and this certainly fits the bill. Very quiet and peaceful, no one bothered us and beautiful walks. We found the site without difficulty, following directions from owner and had no problem with driveway despite our large caravan. The pitches were spacious, grass was cut short, water and hook ups nearby. Rubbish emptied daily. Did not use toilet/washroom but it looked clean and well kept. We will be back. Hope the site is not spoiled by its own popularity and becomes too busy.

Peaceful and quiet

This is a wonderful CL peaceful, quiet, in beautiful surroundings and convenient for the borders. The site was virtually perfect for us and our two dogs who loved the woodland walk and the access to the river whilst we adored the peace and quiet and would have stayed longer if we had been able to. If there is a drawback it is the entrance from the road which is narrow and requires great care especially with a long outfit. Contrary to another review the approach roads are certainly not single track from the A68 at least but it is not clearly signposted and signs for another site are confusing. Other than that a wonderful place that we shall visit again.

What a find .... Perfect.

We booked last minute and this site is fantastic. So peaceful and in the most beautiful of surroundings. The drive down the track to the site showed the high standards in this CL with immaculately kept gardens around Ashieburn House  Lots of space and the marked pitches overlook a pretty field with trees in blossom and wild flowers. Super clean and well presented toilet and washroom.  Information board with local services and history. The woodland river walk is a lovely stroll and there are many walks locally. We prefer CL sites and this is one of the best we have stayed at for a tranquil break in a fabulous location. We did not meet the owners but thank them for such a well run CL.

Fabulous site ( A Hidden Gem)

Kiss The roads surrounding are single track , with hardly any passing places . Luckily you dont meet any traffic(well we didnt) , We found this site by mistaking the neighbouring site as this, and the lady kindly gave directions. This site is not very clearly marked, and could do with some new signs and the roads are far from suitable to make u turns! Once at the entrance, Oh my Word... Please Be careful! the road is not level , a dip in the entrance closely followed by a steep rise. the tow bar grounded and the back of the caravan was mm's from grounding out. Something really needs doing to rectifying the entrance before someone takes out their caravan and does some drastic damage!!! Once on the site ... WOW fabulous. on a bit of a incline, but that was fine.. once parked the views was totally amazing. Fields of Buttercups, and wild flowers. hills giving a fabulous scenery to relax. . very quiet and relaxing weekend. Never met the owner, but a honesty postbox was available to put your cheque payment in. ... totally relaxing , like i say only thing is the entrance to the site. would return with out any doubt, and would recommend , thanks for a lovely stay

Tranquil and Beautiful

My wife and I arrived with our dog Mollie on Thursday 2nd August 2012 after booking 30 minutes before setting off on our 2 hour journey. We were asked to give phone number, car reg number and CC number at the booking stage. On arrival we were greeted by the sight of a beautiful long and narrow lawned strip slightly sloping towards Ale Water, which is a stream about 150 Metres away. The site has a pleasant dog-friendly woodland walk on the grounds. After setting up and speaking to a friendly fellow caravanning couple who regularly frequent this CL we approached the house to pay the £50 for 5 nights. The lady of the house was tending the extensive and beautiful gardens and was friendly and welcoming. My wife and I always use CLs since the kids grew up and stopped coming with us. The main reason for this is that we love hiking and if we can do a 10 to 15 mile hike straight from the CL then all the better. Unfortunately this CLs only drawback for us was that there are no footpaths either from the site or anywhere near. Even the 1.5 mile walk to the pub in Ancrum had to be done along the road which is not a pleasant experience given the tight bends and norrow road. However, if you are prepared to drive out of the site many countryside walks can be found, the nearest of which are a number of colour coded walks around the grounds and surrounding countryside of Harestanes Visitors Centre. We had to combine most of them to make up the distance we required on the day we went but due to flash flooding of the Jed Water river the day before and the amount of rainfall that fell the previous night, the ground was very boggy. Another walk that we did was an 8.5 mile walk out from Kirk Yetholme (16 miles from the CL) onto the Cheviots and back. Returning to the site meant driving wheel deep along flooded roads due to the rains which flooded Jedburgh that same night although miraculously we stayed dry for the duration of the walk despite thunder and lightning in the distant skies. The morning after the flood I noticed what had been a picturesque waterfall in the garden of the CL had turned into a raging thunderous torrent and had swept the wooden arched bridge (that gave access to the garden from the house) had been washed onto it's side several metres away. The remainder of our stay saw the site saturated to such a degree that the owners put a sign at the entrance stating the site was closed due to being too wet although we were not asked to leave. On our last day we drove to Newtown St Boswells and walked over the hills to Melrose in conditions that varied from heavy rain to warm sunshine however the ground was also very muddy and boggy. In conclusion we enjoyed our stay but we do prefer CLs with nearby footpath access to the surrounding countryside.
