An oasis of calm very close to the heart of Durham City

A fabulous site, which we tried for a couple of nights as our first 'off grid' experience with our new van; and very glad we did, a lovely site, peaceful, secluded, yet so close to amenities. Great value for money and we will certainly be back.

Quaint Retreat

Who would have thought 2 minutes from a busy road you will find peace and tranquility. This site is excellent value for money. The site is a large meadow with ample space for 5 caravans/motorhomes.  The ground in places is uneven and levelling blocks are required.  The water tap is located at the far end of the field and further along is the waste disposal point.  There are no bins in the field so you have to take your rubbish up to the cottage where there are two doors one marked bins the other private.  There are two river walks as you come into the site and the drive way is a cycle route so a lot of bikers and dog walkers pass by.  There is little noise from the road and railway line.  Well worth a visit.

Great Site

This CL is only 15 minutes away from me.  We will be visiting again as it is such a relaxing place and feels miles away from home!! Great site.  Easy for me as a beginner to site and level the caravan. Great place for walking the dog.  Only 20 minutes to walk into Durham, although be aware the hill is steep on the way back (there is also a bus stop nearby). 5-10 minute walk to a nearby small Sainsburys.  Great site.

Great Walks On Site

We will definitely be returning to Baxter Wood Farm as it is exactly the kind of place we like to stay. The field is in a sheltered dip on the banks of a river (with a fence between) so there is a lovely background noise of the water and lots of birdsong coming from the tress. There is plenty of space so even when full you can spread out. There are lots of opportunities for walking right on the doorstep with a footpath alongside the river and the Lanchester Valley Walk just through the farm yard so our 2 dogs are having a great time.

Lovely peaceful site.

We must have visited this c.l. 20 or more times when daughter studying at Durham and it never varies.Lage grass area near River Browney .Good basic w.c.facilities near the house.Easy access but grass can be long and this can be tricky for motorcaravans. We have towed one off on one occasion. This site appears to have its own microclimate!!!!!! We have a fifty year old van and once in December we used two 3.9kg propanes in three nights and still the frost did not clear from the INSIDE of the window frames. We discovered that the temp went down to-9c even though everywhere else more than 3 hundred yards away was bathed in sunshine with clear blue skies. A wonderful site that we will no doubt return to even though Mr Jones will be putting up the price next year from £5 night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great CL

If you like peace and quiet then this site is for you. There is no electricity just a tap and a chemical point so I recommend taking well charged batteries and a solar panel if you have one. Loads of room for the kids to play as the site is a grassy meadow with a shallow river running at the side. Some cycliest pass by as the site is situated nearan old disused railway line. Great CL to chillax!
