Close to Bath...there is a but

We chose this site due to the proximity to Bath, and you can easily walk into Bath, a goof 40 minutes. The pitches are fully serviced but you need a long hose, ours wasn't so we had to fill our containers, but that was our fault, we should have asked. The incline to the site is steep as previously mentioned, the approach has several cars parked as the site is on the edge of a scruffy village on the outskirts of Bath. Naturally, mid-February the site wasn't at its best, but the hard standing was plenty wide enough for our small unit. Car parking was an issue, luckily there was only one other van on site, the rest were motor homes and we'd have struggled had there been more vehicles. The hosts are lovely and provide the biggest welcome pack, with maps we've ever received. The site is fairly level, but as others have said, without a motor mover you'd be doing an awful lot of pushing and shoving to get your unit on the angled pitches. I don't advise using your awning in winter, the grass is very wet and doesn't drain well. All in all if you want a convenient place for Bath it's fine, I think I'd prefer to be further out and have a quieter and more rural site.

Good Location For Bath But........................

We chose this CL because of its proximity to Bath and, due to the time of year, the advertised hardstandings. The site is approached off a small service road (lots of parked cars - adjacent school?) and then up a short incline before turning sharp left into the CL (there is an 'annexe' to the right with what look like permanently sited vans/motor homes). The owners property is situated on the side of a hill but the site itself is reasonably level. First impressions were quite disappointing - at least 20 unsightly plastic traffic cones placed alongside the central roadway/track presumably aimed to keep you off the grass plus what looked like an abandoned motor home at the end of the CL. There are about six pitches - equally spaced on either side of the roadway but at about a 45 degree angle. Therefore you can drive in and reverse onto the ones on the right (making departure difficult) or you can turn round and reverse into the ones on the left. However, as the previous reviewer has commented, all this is virtually impossible without a motor mover as there is no designated turning area that is large enough for an outfit to turn round without unhooking (we have a twin axle). The hardstanding pitches are single width meaning that cars/awnings are on the grass. We were there during a spell of wet weather and the ground was saturated. We didn't put our awning up and parked the car on another pitch - not sure how this would all come together if the pitches were occupied. Chemical emptying point was in the centre of the driveway to the owners property requiring a walk uphill - not an issue for us but maybe so if you are less mobile. Very friendly welcome from the owners and massive information pack provided. Possible to walk into Bath from the site or Park and Ride not far away. In the end, with two dogs and all the mud, we left after one night even though we had booked and paid for a week. I was not expecting a refund and nor did I ask for one but all credit to Mr Targett as he gave me my money back so thank you. Is the site worth £14 a night - well I've been on worse CL's that have charged more but I've also been on better CL's that charge less. I'll let you be the judge of that.

Caravan Mover advised, central for Bath

We stayed here mid Dec 2016 aiming to visit the Bath Christmas Markets, but they had finished the day we arrived! Biggest information pack I’ve ever been presented with, idea is you use what you need and return the rest at the end of your stay. One thing pack does not include is a full detailed street map of Bath – the touristy maps are not thorough enough so we bought a good street map. Five days in Bath – great city, may even move here for children’s school. Site itself has some drawbacks and some benefits. Drawback is site is small, access road steep, and pitches are at a curious angle to central access strip between the 5 or 6 pitches, such that you can either drive forward and reverse in OK, or drive out OK, depending on your pitch, but you certainly cannot do both. A ‘caravan mover’ is strongly advised at this site if you are to avoid driving on to the soft grass, which in winter you would sink into. Owner has ‘gone to town’ with rather unsightly traffic cones to discourage people from driving on the grass but he is on a bit of a lost cause as there is not enough space for cars to manoeuvre units on to pitches, nor for cars to park in front of or beside the pitches. I suppose cars park near the entrance, away from the units, when site full. Lane approaching site is steep in places and fallen leaves in winter make it slippery, while the short drive itself, in wet conditions, is ‘interesting’. Our front wheel drive car with a big fully loaded unit behind did wheel-spin a bit up the slope, but the sign suggests we ‘take a run at it’ – and we did! I liked the fact each pitch has its own water supply, so with a long hose you could have permanent running water. Grey waste close to caravans at end of site. Site is closest CL you can get to Bath, it is pretty much IN Bath, yet enough off the nearest main road to not suffer from any traffic noise. We found it quiet which I like, as I just do not like road noise. We used our awning but found grass soft & wet (water run-off from hill?) – space enough for awnings though. Key advantage is its location and proximity to Bath centre – OK with a caravan mover.

A CHARMING CL AND CHARMING OWNERS

We have stayed here a couple of times and have always enjoyed it. The owners Merv and Lyn were very welcoming and could not have been more helpful and provided us with a very comprehensive welcome pack. During our stays they have always been very helpful and courteous. Their farm shop has lots of lovely produce at a very reasonable price. The site is lovely just on the edge of the countryside and is regularly visited by all sorts of wildlife including badgers, deer, foxes, squirrels and all manner of birds. The beautiful city of Bath is a 30 minute walk away or you can use the adjacent park and ride. I would thoroughly recommend this site.

Excellent welcome and ideally sited for Bath and surrounds

We spent 3 nights here as a family in August 2016 and had a lovely stay. The welcome from Merv and Lyn was thorough, and we received much information in their welcome pack which was really considerate and helpful. The CL facilities to each pitch were excellent and we were on a hard standing which despite its look was actually level! Access to the site is steep but the owner does advise this, but be prepared. Approach lane could do with trimming back as we scratched our caravan slightly on the overgrown Holly Tree. Access to Bath is easy with multiple bus options inc the very convenient Park and Ride. We walked in and back a couple of days which is a good 30 mins on foot at brisk pace, but we like exercise so suits us. We will definitely be back but for longer next time as 3 nights wasn't enough to experience all the area had to offer. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Bath at its best

Changed our holiday so we could stay at this site as it was near to Bath and Bristol and on a bus route. Glad we followed the directions rather than SATNAV as Bath is not caravan friendly. Lovely welcome by Lyn Target who was very friendly gave us and sizable information pack on arrival. Was worried on arrival as the entrance is on a very steep access and thankfully the motorhome in front of us moved on before we needed to do a hill start. My Rover 75 is very good towing, but it's clutch does not like steep hill starts. The extra large eggs we bought from Lyn were all double yolkers and delicious. We would certainly do this site again

A very warm welcome on arrival had we have been staying longer the comprehensive information pack would have been most useful. The steepness of the approach road proved testing in places. plan to return for a longer stay
