Our first ever CL - excellent!

This was our first stay on a CL, and it exceeded all expectations right from the moment we arrived. Roger was extremely helpful, the field is spacious and facilities very clean. We walked into the local village and had a lovely afternoon at the Maybush Inn - a collaborative pub which was saved by 130 of the local community, who now run it themselves. There’s a There But Not There soldier in the beer garden - I’ve always wanted to see one of these for real. We highly recommend this CL, which is so well located for the Harwich ferry... and have already booked our next stay.

Bank Holiday weekend

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend, it all started ok, being met upon arrival and shown to our pitch. Wasn't very level pitch but was ok.. Was surprised to see more than 5 caravans / motorhomes over the weekend even though some were in the 'rally field' as its called.. It was not really a problem... the facilities were good and kept clean and tidy even though there were extra people using them. There was some work going on close-by and it would of nice to of been told / warned of some possible noise. Then on Sunday the noise became a lot closer and louder, with the noise of a mini-digger and a dumper all day ( till 6pm ) not to mention people shouting above the noise of the machinery.... not really what you want on a Sunday afternoon, especially when no warning was given.... On top of that the owners dogs were constantly yapping / barking and I think because of the noise they making they were un aware of this.. or didn't care !

Fabulous Stay

We arrived on 17 Apr 18 at the start of a wonderful spell of weather. The grass on the site was very wet however due to the awful weather which had preceded our stay. Roger used his 4WD vehicle to position our caravan for us as our car was struggling with the conditions - thank you so much. We stayed for six nights as we were visiting family and friends in the area and had a very pleasant relaxed stay. The shower is now included in the site fees and has been improved with a glass shower screen replacing the shower curtain of old. The towns of Harwich and Dovercourt, Manningtree and Colchester are all within easy reach and whilst the proximity of the ferry from Parkeston makes this site popular for one night stays, many are missing out on the local jewels. I would recommend this site to explore the local area as there is much to see and do.

Overnight stop for Harwich ferry

Used this great CL as an overnight stop on the 9th May 2017 before getting the early morning ferry from Harwich to Holland. Perfect location and simple, easy-to-find site. We were the only outfit on site so plenty of choice for pitching ! The site does slope a little in places but as we were the only ones, it was possible to pick a completely level position. The toilet / shower "block" was spotless and the information "shack" contained a number of books for exchange / purchase that kept us happy whilst in Holland ! The welcome was friendly and no bother to the owner, despite our evening arrival. Cannot comment on locality or beauty of surroundings, so unable to give 5* for these areas, except to say that the helpful owner directed us to the new Weatherspoons for some dinner at 9.00pm on a Tuesday evening - not world class cuisine, but decent food and a great choice of real-ales !When we next use the Hook of Holland route, we will definitely be back. Thanks for a pleasant stay - albeit very short !

Great find. Fantastic Owners

We decided to stay here on our way home. We were met by the owner and taken to our pitch. We had asked for hard standing as the weather was horrible with torrential rain falling every night of our week away. The owner had laid on an extra long power lead for us which meant we were allocated a very sheltered location on concrete. The facilities here are really good and cleaned daily. During the evening, a Motorhome arrived during a long period of heavy rain. The owner immediately went to their aid laying on extension cables to allow them to park in safety on hard standing not normally used. A really impressive level of service and commitment. Well done. We'll be back.

Fanstatic Week

We have just returned from a lovely week here. Really is a gem of a site. Lovely owners, very friendly, plenty of space, really helpful to have a small dog walking area on site. Plus there is plenty of opportunity to walk along public foot paths all from the site. Facilities are good, always clean and tidy. Lots to do in the surrounding area, Lots of people come and go for the ferry, so it felt like we had the site to ourselves most of the time! Access is easy even if you have a long outfit, no weany roads to navigate. Will definitely be returning!

A Great Place To Stay For The Ferry

We stayed here in July (I'm a bit late reviewing) for a night prior to an early morning ferry to Holland. The site was easy to find and we had a friendly welcome when we arrived. The site is clean and well kept with the pitches slightly sloping. Its situation is great for an overnight stay to catch the Harwich ferry and there wasn't far to go for our early start the next morning. Reccommended and we will return I'm sure.

Good stop for Harwich Ferry

Nice CL - all pitches slightly sloping. Perfect location for Harwich ferry which is about 15 mins away. Found the site to have a "rally" field next to the "CL" field, which also had a few vans on. This was definitely not a rally (we have been on many!). Also, fairly expensive at £18 a night for our family (with 4 kids) and 50p extra each for a shower. Would recommend as an overnight stop for the ferry.

Friendly site

Easy to find. A warm and friendly welcome from owners who were very helpful. Grass areas very soft (March) so relocated to a hard standing area. Need wedges for wheels, all pitches slightly sloping. Used electric hook up and shower. Warm electric shower, a bit basic but roomy and clean. Perhaps charge £1 per night more rather than 50p per shower. Enjoyed our stay even though the friendly local neighbour started shooting at 7am on the Friday morning.
