Our first caravan trip

I must start this review by saying that this holiday was our first with a caravan. We firstly stopped for two nights at a campsite in Shrewsbury and found it to be an immaculate, all singing, all dancing site which was expensive, had extensive rules and anything extra cost even more Not my sort of place. Then we went to Bryn-y-Gwin Farm, what a good move! It was just what we wanted, it was rural the owners were very friendly and gave us a nice welcome. The site comprises of fifteen pitches at the moment but some more were being constructed at a different part of the farm while we were there. There are five CL pitches, five general and five seasonal. We ended up on the general pitches but this was adjacent to the CL area so did not bother us. The pitches could prove slightly difficult to get into but we managed with no problem (I did have a smug smile when I got my caravan where I wanted it). We were overlooking the chicken coop but opened up the awning at the end and had a lovely view down through the wooded valley. There were two toilets and one shower but there are plans to build a new block in the future. There were sheep chickens and dogs loose on the site but it is called a farm so I was not surprised to see them. We did occasionally have chickens try and enter the awning and we had to keep an eye out for them trying to sneak past us. The fishing lake is a recent addition and has small fish at the moment but in the next couple of years will develop to be a nice fishery , it is still a pleasant place to have a stroll around. The area has some of the most stunning scenery and we found a couple of lakes at LLynnau Cregennan a short drive up the road. From here there were some fantastic walks with outstanding views of the Barmouth estuary in the distance. Dolgellau is a small town with some narrow streets whcich had my heart beating quite fast when I drove the caravan through. We ate twice in the town at the Meirionnydd Hotel which was a pleasant place with good service and friendly people, in fact when they couldn’t get us a taxi back to the site the owner gave us a lift in his car, what service! The food was excellent but on the higher end of the scale cost wise, If you chose to stay at this location ask the owner about his art and I am sure he will only be too pleased to show you his work, we found out quite by accident what he did. We ended up bringing a piece home with us where our friends were absolutely impressed as to the skill and what was used as a canvas (you will have to go to see these unique canvases) We are looking forward to our next trip to this area and will definitely stay on this site again
