Excellent Site - BUT!!

This is a really a super quiet site which should score as excellent 5 stars. The pitches are hard standing, relatively flat, well spaced out, with hedge rows in-between and two have water taps at hand. There is a nice view across the valley. The grass areas were mowed a couple of times during our two week stay. The site is only a few metres from the cycle track into Bude and this provides an easy level walk into the town. It links with the canal tow path route into Bude which is very interesting as it not only passes a marsh area good for birding but has a resident heron or two which visitors can easily see and observe from the path. Small pedalos', canoes and paddle boards ply the canal and give the visitor plenty of entertainment! However,we were disappointed that our pitch (no1) (with water tap) had a couple of (in our opinion) major issues: - firstly a dangerous rut - very serious health hazard - (we were told that a motor home previous visitor had got stuck after heavy rain and had to be pulled free) in the grassed area and that nothing had been done to rectify the hole before our visit. We placed two whole bricks in the rut to prevent anyone in our group tripping / coming to grief!! The hole was reported to the site owner early on day two of our visit but nothing was done to deal with the problem during our stay. Disappointing. - secondly the pitch became severely waterlogged during our visit following heavy rain - the water was seeping UP through the ground not coming under the sides of the awning and led to a very muddy interior - a major difficulty as we had children sleeping in the awning area. Again the site owner was aware that this pitch had an issue after rain referring to it as the 'damp corner of the site. The pitch urgently needs to have better drainage. In addition to these points we felt that the refuse and recycling facilities were not emptied often enough and this led to an 'overflow' situation for both types of waste during our stay. This is undoubtedly a 'peak' season issue but need addressing. We wouldn't want this to be seen as a negative report - we have drawn the issues above to the site owner's attention and hopefully remedial work will be done before next year. We found the site location EXCELLENT and hardly used our car - travelling only 82 miles in the two week visit. The walk into Bude is easy and also makes a nice evening stroll. From the site you can get to the coast path and walk towards Widemouth Bay or Bude. There is also a nice walk along the canal (away from Bude) to a super cafe / restaurant 'The Weir" where there is a large pond (fishing available) with ducks, small ponies and ducks to admire. It is a good place to relax and get refreshments. Eating and refreshment places were extremely busy during our stay and pre-booking, if at all possible, was essential.

Hi there, thanks very much for your review- pointing out the positives parts of your stay as-well as those that need some attention. The rut on the pitch has been remedied, this was done on the day of your departure between guests, the bricks were as you say not ideal but I felt had remedied the situation from a safety point of view temporarily they had been filled once before after the vehicle getting stuck but had had subsided and I was unaware there was a problem until you kindly pointed it out to me. Apologies if there were any waste issues as you say it was within peak season and I do try to check the bins regularly to avoid any overflow situation occurring,  from an owners point of view it’s difficult to gauge the right capacity for waste especially with extra guests/family’s during the summer break. We don’t make a huge amount of profit from the CL so it’s important not to have bins being emptied that aren’t full. The plan this winter is to look into drainage for this part of the site once again my apologies if it was detrimental to your stay. I appreciate your bringing these issues to my attention and hope we can welcome back to the site in the future.

Kind Regards Amy Wright
