We have just returned from a highly enjoyable 9-night stay at Cefn Eithin Certified Location. It has now become our favourite CL in Wales and we are hoping to return again next year. The site is in a stunning location with views of the mountains on one side and the sea on the other (when it isn’t raining!). The single track road up to it, was only a short distance and we managed to turn into the site and off again at the end of the stay easily with a bit of care. We used the tyre marks in the gravel to guide us.
The family who run the site are lovely and very helpful and keep the site in lovely condition. Their friendly dog, George, saw us on to our pitch each time we returned and would walk us off the site too. Although it rained a lot, the site drained extremely well so there was never any problem.
The site itself is a lovely garden, with shrubs and bushes around the large pitches full of wildlife. These bushes are filled with birds which kept us entertained whilst we were at the caravan. The buddleia bushes attracted lots of butterflies and bees and, at night, moths, which then attracted bats which we could see right outside our caravan window as they fed at dusk.
The site is very close to a cycle/walking path which we frequently used to get into Caernarfon (about 4 miles away) and there is also a bus stop at the opposite end of the lane which we also used. We drove to Pwllheli which is a great area for swimming with free parking just off the promenade.
The Sea Zoo on Anglesey didn’t get great reviews on Tripadvisor, but we enjoyed our visit and stayed nearly 2 hours. Highlights were the sea horses and jelly fish. The reviews were right about the café.
We also took a trip out on the boat from Caernarfon Castle and the Captain told us all about the boat’s history as it had originally been brought over from America, having been used in New York, to help with the war effort.
We cycled down to Caernarfon Airport and visited the Mountain Rescue Museum there which has lots of aircraft that entertained us one wet afternoon. We didn’t eat at the café but the food did look nice.
A local gentleman we met at the bus stop recommended taking the S1 bus to Betws-y-Coed, via Llanberis and we are glad we took him up on his advice as the drive was stunning and we were able to see the salmon trying to jump the falls whilst enjoying an ice-cream.
