Lovely open site

Very secure (narrow) entrance to a good, level, open and sunny field with shade if required. A pleasant welcome from Lynette. Surprisingly for a small CL there is the useful addition of a toilet/shower block, with no extra charge. Re. previous comments about road noise, the site is set well back from the road which is 30mph anyway and certainly didn’t bother us. Good dog walk from site, beaches, pubs and shops all within walking distance. Nyetimber is a short drive with a choice of pubs; we enjoyed a good meal at The Lion. Thanks Lynette and Richard for a enjoyable stay.

Friendly welcome at a site that's just a few miles from the coast.

Spent six nights at Chalcroft Cottage just before the Jubilee weekend. Richard and Lynette are very friendly and helpful and the site is very well kept and spacious. With the promenade just a few miles away it's easy to get into Bognor Regis and we cycled in several times and rode the full length of the prom and back. As usual I've made a video of the site which can give a much better impression of it than I can put down in words. https://youtu.be/f8tJuzt_99Q

Great welcome

Richard is the perfect host, the welcome he gives on arrival is second to none. The approach lane is narrow, but short and only goes to the field, so not really a problem. The field is a good size, relatively flat and you can choose your own pitch, depending on what is available. We arrived in early April and were the first one's in, so had our choice of the field. It has a wonderful sunny aspect and is a great size. The chickens are entertaining and access to Bognor Regis, on foot, is a pleasant walk. We can't comment on the facilities as the water heater was broken when we were there, so no hot water for showers/washing up etc. The biggest downside to this site is the road noise. Others have said it isn't obtrusive but it really is. Obviously, wind direction would make a difference but the road literally passes straight in front of the site and it's a busy road.

Peaceful bolthole near the coast

An early season break at this spacious CL. Having said that the approach lane isn't. Owners of new 8ft. caravans will have to breathe in. Water pressure makes filling an aqua roll or motorhome tank need the addition of reading material while you wait. Ground seems fairly firm and well drained although I took the precaution of track mats just to be sure. Natives are friendly.

Lovely campsite

So glad we found this lovely campsite, as mentioned before a hidden jem. Richard was the perfect host, we stayed for 3 peaceful nights. The campsite was flat and surrounded by trees, lots of wildlife. There was so much to see and do in the area, I would recommend the Tangmere military aviation museum, and the Gribble pub, good real ale and food.

Hidden Gem

What a great find! This was a perfect short stay prior to our ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight. The site wasn’t full but even if it was the plots are extremely generous. Flat level field. Bonus of toilets and showers for such a cheap price. Very welcoming easy arrival. Can’t fault anything. Very good stay.

Midsummer heat !

Final approach to this CL is pretty much as described in the handbook. That right turn just past the left turn into Westmeads Drive is a narrow turning between two sets of bollards where there is also a green public footpath sign. These quickly bring you to halt in front of a remote controlled gate. From there you get directed by phone along the lane to the house and then into the site, which is great because this access lane is narrow ! The welcome was friendly, attentive and accommodating. The site is a large tree lined and well sheltered rectangular meadow with pitch markers appropriately placed along the far long side. Pitch occupancy was fairly full during our stay, but you would expect that at a CL in this area during midsummer. We did not feel in any way crowded in as the pitch spacing was generous, allowing freedom for toddlers or to walk the dog. Water and chemical tipping are well set out around the toilet/shower building which is near the house. Water pressure on the low side ! The toilets and showers were adequate and fairly clean, with Covid protocols in place. This site is quiet ! There is some distant road noise during daytime but this subsides during the evening and overnight. The location has quite a rural feel to it, with chickens kept in the owner's garden. And there is little or no sense from within the site of any proximity to a residential area. The grass was cut during our brief 2-night stay. Because this is a meadow (not a lawn) the grass was maybe a little bit on the long side when we arrived - just something to be aware of if you are venturing across from the pitch to the facilities before the sun had burnt off early morning dew. During hot dry spells there's a balance needed here about cutting frequency. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The weather was hot & dry, and the sea water temperature permitted us to dip more than a toe in !! Parking is straightforward at the Aldwick end of Bognor, or there's Pagham and then Wittering further along - it's a personal choice between a quieter/pebbly or a crowded/sandy beach ? For us, we have a roof mounted solar panel so a weekend break without a mains hookup in midsummer is quite acceptable, with the only challenge to make sure we were phone charging while driving. Staying at the extremes of the season might require a bit more strategy ? The pitch fee generously reflects the omission of a hook up !

Lovely Pitch

We have just returned home after spending 7 nights at this site, our family live around this area so we have been visiting a number of times a year for many years so I cannot comment on the touristy bit because we tend not to do it. It is our first time on this site as our relative found it and what a gem it is. It is a beautiful field surrounded by trees and wild flowers and we were overwhelmed by how quiet it is at night (many in this area are not quiet). The host is extremely friendly and the pitches are flat shops are in easy reach and you could walk into Bognor if you wish. If you have a dog you can walk it on the public footpath next door. I cannot rate the toilets and showers as since the commencement of Covid we have not used any. We have had a thoroughly enjoyable week and will certainly return

What a Gem!

Stayed here for two nights last week. Meadow site with a myriad of wild flowers, foxes and birds! Very friendly, helpful owner who clearly cares about the environment. Spacious 'bathrooms' added to the stay. Footpaths nearby for dog walking and easy access to places of interest. Just what we needed. Thank you Richard!
