Our favourite place to stay

We have stayed at Chiverton Farm many times - it is safe to say it is our favourite CL. We almost don't want to share it!! We love to walk down to the beach from the site - stunning views of the sea and Mounts Bay and a great beach. Plenty of places to visit nearby for all the family. Its perfectly quiet and peaceful. The Skewes family are welcoming and kind. The farm is a genuine working farm, so be prepared to see the beautiful cows at milking time (you might have to wait for them) - but this is a perfect time to chat or take a quiet minute. There might be a few cow pats - but as I said, its a genuine working farm and cows poo. Bring your wellies, relax and enjoy. It made us all very sad to see the negative reviews on here - this site is like our sanctuary - a bit of longish grass (which is usually cut anyway) and cow poo shouldn't keep anyone away - you'd be missing out. We've been here in all weathers - and we still love it. Sorry to the lovely family who own and run this site - we've taken far too long to write this review! Life has been busy and we need to come again for a rest.

Peaceful and tranquil

Basic but lovely site on a very old dairy farm. Truly a place to wind down and enjoy the birdsong with a glass of wine in hand. Drive through the farm lane and if you are lucky you will see the farmer bring his cows in for milking the Cornish way, (slowly & dreckly) some of them like to be stroked and will lick your hand. Access to the SW coast path via fields and not far from lots of places of interest. If you are looking for manicured lawns, and cow pat free lanes…go somewhere else ….your loss!

Great site

We looked at the reviews before booking and although some were negative, we took a chance. It is a lovely quiet site and the walk over to Perranuthnoe is about 20mins with spectacular views over St Michaels mount. The owner, Anita, was very friendly and welcoming. What you need to bear in mind when booking this site is that its on a working farm and you have to drive through the farmyard to get to the site. On wet days this does mean driving through mud and cow muck. You do have to drive past a stagnant pond but it is not on the site. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Cannot recommend this site

Booked this site in January for an October visit and requested EHU and hardstanding. Rang to confirm a couple of days before arriving and was told she didn't reserve hardstandings and we had to get there early if we wanted one. Unhelpful and not mentioned when we originally booked. The approach starts with the long, very bumpy and muddy track to the farm and gets worse when you hit the deep cow muck at the farmyard. Beware the stinking pond on your left as you get nearer to the CL. The site itself is tired, run down, uncared-for and clearly hadn't been mown in recent times. There are 3 grass pitches and 2 small hardstandings but you have to cross the long wet grass to reach them! None of them are level. The site was beset by flies of all varieties. On the plus side the village of Rosudgeon has a small Co-op with Post Office and there is a fish & chip shop. Penzance with several major supermarkets is nearby and there is a distant view of St. Michael's mount from the public footpath/dog walk although it's marred by power cables. The western Cornish peninsula is within easy reach for day-trips. Cannot recommend this site and we will not be coming back.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. The CL Site is a working cattle farm where the cows go back and forth throughout the day, so with the mud and wet weather the yard does get muddy. As a result the CL Owners have now decided to close over the winter months to prevent any further concerns about this. They will remain open during the rest of the year for members to enjoy their lovely site.

Good Location but unless you like Mud and Stagnant ponds. Wouldn’t stay again

We chose this site as our introduction to CL sites as we love the Penzance area. Arriving after 9 hours towing we turned into the lane looking forward to settling. We had read some of the reviews so were expecting a typical farm lane, however and I’ll point out we live in a farming community I was not prepared for the unbelievable state of the track and farm yard. It is rough to start with getting progressively worse until it end up being inches deep in mud and cow dung. The farm gates are hanging in bits and it all looks tired. We pass by the farmhouse which at one time has obviously had a nice pond alongside it, this pond now has a layer of stagnant slime on top of it and no doubt in warmer days a breeding ground for flies. I appreciate it’s a working dairy farm but I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a bad farmyard. The CL field is long grass, I get the idea of longer grass in the autumn but this was too long, no chance of walking about without getting wet ankles and it’s hard to wheel the tank to the chemical point etc. We were lucky to get one of the hard standing pitches and with a couple of levelling blocks we were able to sort the van out. The edge of the pitch was already chewed up and resembled the Somme so we backed the van up as far as we could. I agree with the last review that the site was run down. The drinking water tap is mounted quite high and beneath it is some metal item that doesn’t assist with filling it rather hinders it as you have to balance the aqua roll whilst it fills. The chemical disposal point worked but was covered by a rusty old manhole lid, bearing in mind it was a toilet sunk into the ground why it couldn’t have a standard toilet lid on with a handle stuck on is beyond me. We never saw the owner all week and ended up emailing them to find where to pay and then trail through the mud to get to the house. Good job we always have wellies. The EHU is good at 16amps and the village facilities are good but you’ll plaster your car in mud every time you go out and come back. We heard the owls on a night and it was certainly tranquil. We have a Discovery which copes with the mud and bumps but I was less than impressed towing the van through it all. I certainly wouldn’t recommend anyone with a low van and ordinary car visit the place. Such a shame as the location is perfect. One to forget for us and a poor introduction to CL’s thankfully the one we’ve moved to is superb

Decent location but....

Ideally situated for those wishing to visit both The Lizard and the Land's End peninsulas the site lies at the end of a 0.4 ml rather rough farm track off the A394 approximately midway between Penzance and Helston. It is therefore a quiet site mainly grass, which was rather long, obviously not having been cut in a while, but does have a couple of hardstanding pitches, however one does have to cross the grass to access them. It is sheltered from the prevailing winds but has no views to speak, the pitches being adjacent to the treeline. The site slopes away from the entrance gate, so levelling blocks or ramps are required to level ones unit and the lower end of the site was quite wet when we arrived and might prove a problem for M/Hs and large units after heavy rain. There are numerous footpaths from the the site, some of which lead down to the coastal path, and there is a circular walk of about a mile, with views of St Michael's Mount, good for morning/evening dog walks. We found TV reception to be rather hit and miss, as was the free wifi, although we were fine with our 3 mobile mifi. There is a bus stop at the top of the drive with what appeared to be a regular service. Penzance has most major superstores, including a Lidl, and Sainsbury's had the cheapest fuel. There are many places of interest close by including the NT's Godolphin and Penrose Estates, St Michael's Mount, Cape Cornwall, Godrevy Head and sands, and the Tin mines at Botallack, and Levant. The one major downside to the site was the state of the drive, the latter third of which was covered in mud and cow manure through which one had to drive whenever entering or leaving the site. This is the dirtiest farm drive we have ever encountered in over 40yrs caravanning. I very much doubt that we will use this site again.

Well situated for the little gems Cornwall has to offer

A well located site for exploring the southern most part of Cornwall. Therr are plenty of nearby shops like Co-op, Sainsbury's and Tesco as well as petrol stations too. The site is generally peaceful, although, the farmer was using a bird scarer in one of the nearby fields which was going from dawn till dusk the whole week we were there. The site was easy enough to get to and to find the site, with good size roads on the lead up to it. Disappointingly, during our stay, we experienced that a large section of the long driveway leading to the caravan field was covered with a thick layer of cow manure. This seems to be the main route for the cows, from barn to field, and cows used that route several times a day. It wasn't cleared once during our stay and when it rained it became so sludgy that even with a 4 wheel drive it became very slippery. With rain also came the very strong smell of manure within the caravan area, this wouldn't normally bother us but this became quite pungent at times. The field itself is on a bit of a slant so make sure you have some ramps and blocks. We also found the grass to be kept rather long compared to the usual CL sites we've stayed on. Wasn't much of a problem for us but I know some people prefer to stay where the grass is kept shorter. Easy access to drinking water, toilet disposal, bins and recycling on the caravan field. No grey water drain.

Brilliant location

We had a wonderful stay here. Pitches are spacious and so peaceful. Some lovely coastal path walks directly from the site (our favourite was the walk to marazion). There is a bus service at the entrance to the farm if you want to walk one way and bus it back. The entrance to the farm is a bit rough but nothing to be concerned about. Would definitely stay here again

Perfect peaceful site

This is the 2nd year that we’ve stayed at Chiverton Farm and for us it’s the perfect site and location. Very friendly owners, spacious field with clean facilities. Access straight from camping field into open fields ideal for dog walking and gorgeous views from there over St. Michael’s Mount. Easy access to the coast path. We walked over to the Cabin Beach Cafe in Perranuthnoe and spent a couple of hours on the beautiful beach. There’s even free wifi on some parts of the site. Absolutely love this site and will go back year after year whenever we visit Cornwall

Perfect CL

We are just back from a long weekend at Chiverton farm. A perfect CL, quite and relaxing. The best bit has to be the 25 minute walk through woods and fields to reach the coast path. Then you have a choice to walk east or west along one of the best parts of the coast path. The highlight was a walk to Perranuthnoe and lunch at The Cabin. Yes the farm lane can get a bit muddy, but to be expected on a real farm. Hope to return soon.
