Hit the Jackpot!

We adored this little site! We only spent one night here, but will definitely come back as we want to explore more of the surrounding countryside. We had a stroll beside the nearby canal in the stunning Autumn sunshine, and, coming back through the village, popped into the little church, which is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. We really recommend this spacious, tranquil site and can't wait for a return visit!

A gem of a site

A lovely peaceful site with views of the horses in the paddock & if you are lucky you will see the resident owl flying around. The site is well maintained with grass & a couple of hardstanding pitches. There are no showers or toilets so you need to be self contained but there is somewhere to empty your waste and there is a water tap between each pitch. Just pitch up next to the white markers and the owners will come and introduce themselves in the evening with a handout on local walks. You are right on the Kennet & Avon canal with pubs in both directions both do food. At the moment the canal path is muddy & very overgrown so walking boots or wellies needed. We had a lovely time here almost didn’t want to leave a review in case it gets too busy, we will definitely be back.

Lovely CL site

We only had a short stay but would definitely be keen to return. Lovely, peaceful site with water, EHU, grey water waste and chemical disposal. Excellent WiFi too. We had our dog with us so easy access to off lead walking on Kennet and Avon canal towpath was a boon. Walk in one direction and your reach the Barge Pub in about 25 minutes. Looks as though there are lots of other facilities within walking distance. Jacqueline provided a very useful one page list of walks, cafes etc. Recommended.

Off the beaten track.

Good access, past the horse stables two hard standings the rest grass, all with lovely views of the horses in the Paddock. We were there in a wet week during March. Grass was a bit soft, and ground slightly undulating so you might need ramps and blocks. There is a duel drinking water tap between pitches so depending on which side you pitch you might need a hose extension to connect to the caravan. Excellent raised chemical disposal. Owners came and greeted us with a handout about walks. Lovely walk along canal but very muddy. Also some fantastic bike rides direct from the site to Caen Hill Locks and up to the Ridge Way. Ice cream and basic groceries from Honeystreet Mill Cafe, also check out the India shop. Recommend Plank's Farm Shop for more variety and a good butchers.

Little Gem

Stayed here recently for 10 nights. A lovely well maintained CL with EHU and water to each pitch, good Wi-Fi included in pitch fee. A warm welcome from the owners Mr & Mrs Read. Ideally situated for Avebury, Laycock, Devizes and Bath. From the site it's a short walk to the Kennet and Avon Canal with lovely walks along the tow path in both directions and ideal for off lead walks with dogs. No shower or toilet but we don't need facilities as we have our own in the caravan. Would highly recommend

Amazing little cl

This is a great site, well situated for some lovely walks straight from the site. It is right on the canal, you can walk in either direction, each way will take you to a village with a pub. There are also walks from the site in the opposite direction to the canal where you can walk for miles in the hills. The owner gave us written information on the local walks & we managed 3 of the walks in the 3 days we stayed. It is a well kept site & very quiet at night, just owls for company. The fields around are filled with horses which are a joy to observe. Altogether we had a lovely stay & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Lovely site with easy access

A great little CL right on the edge of the Kennet and Avon canal with walking routes in every direction, whether up onto the Ridge or along the canal.... all very beautiful and tranquil. The CL itself is really well maintained and the owners provide lots of information on the walks and eateries in the area. We will be back to explore more.

A Definite "Return" if in the Area CL

Can't really fault anything at this C.L. Spacious area with 6 spots to choose for pitching, all on grass, and 1 Hardstanding. The Owners blurb on the club site covers most of the basics. It's a large farm field so not quite flat in places but easy enough to find a flat space. The facilities are second to none. Excellent waste water area, also for M/H, and the Elsan is very good. There are various recycling bins which are kept in a tidy space. The surrounding field contains 3 or 4 horses and several others are dotted around in adjoining fields. I imagine the owners would probably be happy to accommodate anyone who wanted to bring their own horse here. The various Owls are really the only noise you will hear at night, except for distant explosions from Salisbury Plain when the Army gets going. Points of interest are fairly local and major supermarkets can be found in Devizes or Marlborough. There is free Wifi but in all honesty that is the only thing that didn't work too well. It was OK during the day but dropped out at night so best have a backup. Dog walking would be easy for anyone with Fido. The canal is but 2 minutes away and you can choose which way to walk the dog. We were also able to walk out from site onto the ridge seen above the site and down to the 2 "Altons". Pitches are enhanced so at £15 per night it was good value. A definite 5* site.

Nice and relaxing

We stayed for 10 days in July and found directions and access easy. Please follow the directions in the book and NOT Sat Nav. A very nice flat and peaceful site, with water tap on each pitch. This could be better if you had a grey water drain to each pitch which is quite common now with many CL's. It is part of a livery so you do find the odd person coming to take their horse for a ride. There are plenty of walks around the site and the canal walk to the Barge Inn at Honey Street is nice even if several of the narrow boats moored along the canal path, some have seen better days! However, in my opinion, if you are looking for a better meal you can take the canal walk in the opposite way (Probably 2 miles) or a short drive to All Cannings, the next village. You will find here the Kings Arms pub with excellent meals for the price and they also have a C L site at the rear. (Electric but Not service pitches) I would certainly recommend Church Farm CL site. It is very handy for walkers for the White Horse Trail, which you can undertake from the site or if you fancy a day out in the car Stonehenge, Salisbury and the National Trust property at Stourbridge (Gardens fantastic and currently dogs allowed on a lead) are all within an hours drive of the site (Tractor permitting). A lovely site and we enjoyed our stay.

So peaceful

Wonderful CL, the previous reviews say it all. Nice flat field with EHU and water to each pitch and spotless, grey waste,CDP and bins. Wifi better than most CMHC sites and good TV signal. Situated in the Vale of Pewsey next to the Kennet and Avon canal and within walking distance of the Alton Barnes white horse. Lots to do in the surrounding areas including Avebury, Caen locks, Savernake Forrest and the lovely town of Marlborough. Watched the Paragliding on Huish Ridge when we arrived. Looking forward to finding a spot in the diary for another visit. Thank you Jacky for a lovely stay.
