Peaceful CL with glorious views

A peaceful, large field with lovely far reaching views - but very sloping, needing a lot of blocks to level the van. Very little arrival information, and with holiday cottage cars parked, can be awkward to do the sharp right turn off the road into the location— Grass kept nicely short and good to have laundry facilities available for the CL. Good location for Porthleven , Helston, The Lizard etc. Beautifully quiet and peaceful.

Unfortunately not totally as described on this description.

I know my title doesn’t sound very flattering but I do feel I need to leave an honest review for this location. I spent seven nights here in July. The site was booked for a family as the description and photo’s showed a play area / apparatus that my grandchildren could play on when not out and about. Unfortunately the pictures are quite out of date as the only “play” area available is the largish grassed field and a solitary goal post frame, not the wooden climbing frame as pictured. As has been stated in other reviews, the roads leading to the site are very narrow and passing oncoming traffic whilst towing was sometimes tricky, but saying that it is cornwall after all. Upon arriving at the site from the Ashton direction, you have to make a rather tight turn into the initial entrance. This would not have been such an issue had it not been for the fact that a car had been parked in such a way that made turning very awkward. Finding the owners for information and to pay wasn’t immediately obvious, but not overly difficult either. After our initial arrival, you are required to navigate a quite narrow lane up to the field of pitches. This has a very tight curve with a stone wall to your right and a floral border to the left hiding a wooden fence. Anyone with a large unit would find this troublesome without destroying the border itself. Access then takes you onto the site which is rather more sloping than described. It isn’t impossible to level up, but does require quite a lot in the way of blocks for the corner steadies. The grassed pitches are well kept and spacious. When pitched, you are treated to an absolutely stunning view with St Michael's Mount visible in the distance. The EHU connection is 10 amp, and is quite easily tripped, even using a low wattage kettle and toaster. Also in the description, extra persons are now charged at £2 pppn, and although the WIFI is visible on devices, trying to actually use it once connected was impossible even with equipment that bill boost a signal strength. The information for the laundry facilities was non existent but as we have a portable washing machine, was no bother. It would just have been nice to have had the information on arrival. The adjacent field for exercising dogs is fantastic with plenty of space for your dogs to run freely as the hedgerow around the perimeter is discretely fenced. All in all, this is is a really lovely site to explore the area from, but I feel the description on the CMHC site needs updating to reflect certain changes.

Wonderful Views but very sloping

Wonderful views but very sloping site, be prepared to take levelling wedges, possible 12 in requirement. Roads narrow and access tight if you have a largish caravan. It was wet when we arrived and without 4 wheel drive I wouldn't have got onto the site. Electrics 10 amp and wifi unreliable. I sound critical but it is a wonderful base site for touring Cornwall with the additional advantage of a good pub close by. Colin M

Long walk to bus stop

This site has the most beautiful views across the bay towards Newyn, however the pitches are quite sloping. As we have a Motorhome we prefer to use buses, these were frequent but it was quite a trek to and from the bus stop, about 25 minutes up hill on the way back and on a narrow lane. We hired a car in the end. This would not stop be from returning though.

So peaceful

We stayed for a fortnight in Sept, what a beautiful view and so quiet well away from noisy roads. Lots to do and not too far to travel would recommend this site.

A site worth staying at

Good views, particularly from the top right hand pitch. Grass regularly cut. No site wifi at the vans, but enough signal to hotspot from smartphones. If it has rained, you may need a run to ensure forward momentum coming up in the field. If you have a long van you need to come in from the Godolphin Cross end or the turn in is difficult. The chemical disposal does need improvement. Just a hosepipe from the tap to the disposal point would improve things no end.  I used the washing machine and it worked well and was £4 per load. There is a long washing line where everything dried well but if you need the tumble dryer it is £1 for 30 mins.  All in all a good site in a good location with helpful owners.

Picturesque views

This is overall a nice site, with picturesque views from some of the pitches (hint take a second hook-up cable if you have one). Nice area, and we and our children enjoyed our stay. Just a few minor things to point out: - WIFI - forget it from the caravan. If' you're prepared to walk down to the corner of the field near the cottages you will get a signal.  - Washing machine. It's a normal domestic size and costs £4 per wash. We ended up using the launderette Helston instead. - Access to the site, as other reviewers have said. Not a major problem, some smaller caravans manage the turn, if you've  a large one just turn around in the road ending a 100 yards up, and approach from the other direction. - Elston disposal area a bit grotty.

Lovely site!

Chycarne Farm is probably one of the nicest, prettiest Cl sites that we have ever visited.  Lovely views towards Mounts Bay and very peaceful location.  The site does slope but Ollie, one of the site owners, is very obliging and will supply extra levelling blocks if required.  Our caravan is quite long at around 7.5 meters and the entrance was a little tight if approaching from the directions supplied.  However, if approached from Godolphin Cross, the entrance is no problem.  If, like us, you approach the site from the 'wrong' direction, there is a little road further on from the site signposted 'Germoe' and it is possible to back into the road to turn around. Hope to visit again soon.  Many thanks for a lovely holiday!

Beautiful Site

An immaculately kept site, the grass was better mowed than my lawn! Lovely views and a very spacious site - plenty of room for children to play, play equipment and a separate field for kite flying etc, dog exercising area. The other two reviews comment on the site entrance and the site being on a "bit of a hill" - it is, but it is only a gentle slope as the picture shows. The entrance could be a little tricky for large outfits coming using the directions in the handbook, but if you come from Godolphin Cross there should be no problem getting in - when we were there, there was a large twin axle on site who had no problems getting in or out. Perhaps the directions in the handbook should be changed?

Lovely site

We stayed at this CL for a few nights in June 2013 and found it a little difficult to get to because of narrow Cornish lanes!!! The owner was very welcoming and the site clean and tidy. It's on a bit of a hill, which makes parking up a little tricky and could be a little more interesting in heavy rain. I used the clothes washing facilities which were handy. The hill position is worth it when the weathers good because the view of the sea is fantastic! All in all a lovely site but could prove to be a little tricky iin the bad weather!
