Ideal if you're a into Fishing. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

We'd normally only stay at a CL with a 4.5+ rating, but I had to try this one anyway, for one main reason. I'm almost certainly related to the owners and it would have been nice to meet them. They obviously weren't interested. But I think that's what summed this place up, unfriendly and impersonal. But you have to appreciate, this is a massive Fishing business and the CL probably only makes up 1% of its revenue, resulting in the effort placed upon it being very low. Don't get me wrong, this could be a really good site. The CL is a massive level grass field, but for some reason, they've placed the ONE bank of four EHUs in one corner. Why? So, as per the photo on their webpage, if there's more than one Unit, they're going to be on top of each other. Being stuck in that corner of the field presented another problem, the TV signal, which varied between Appalling and Non Existent. It really messed up what we were hoping was going to be a relaxing five night break. Yes, I did have some stuff Downloaded, but I like to keep abreast of the News and my wife watches some stuff in the late afternoon. I went to the Office to get some advice about how I might get a better signal, from the only staff available. They were both very lovely ladies, but their knowledge of the CL site was severely lacking. I was hoping they'd at least say, “I'll try and find out for you”, but No, they didn't bother. I tried my (Brand new) Aerial again when I got home. It worked perfectly and I live in an area with awful TV reception. The other issue with the positioning of the EHU, is that it's about as far away from the shower block, waste disposal, etc. Another thing that wound me up, was the Rubbish disposal. After us separating our recyclables, we found that their bins were ALL just General Waste. Never had that before and I expected better. From looking at Google Map, Cottington Lakes is set in a beautiful area, but don't get excited, because we're not allowed access to any of it. On a positive note, the shower/toilet block was clean, tidy and well stocked and the showers worked brilliantly. To sum up, I'd only recommend this place if you're going there for the fishing.

Great Cl !

I fished Cottington Lakes in 2016 and while there looked around the campsite and Cl , so this year i returned with the wobblebox and stayed on the Cl for 6 nights . The approach is quite easy and the Cl is a beautiful, large meadow close to the specimen lakes . You will need extra hookup cables if you dont want to be on top of your neibours as the hookups are all from one point in a corner of the field . All the grounds are beautifully tended and wildlife is abundant . From rabbits and squirrels to buzzards, kingfishers and muntjac deer The fishing is better then good , and in the specimen lakes there are true monsters , with carp to over 50lb , pike 20lb+ , perch 5lb+ and rudd over 2lb . For the pleasure fisherman there are several other lakes of varying difficulties , all beautifully tended . The services are all by the reception block and are clean and adequate . There is also a cafe , bar (limited opening hours) and tackle shop .The staff are all friendly and knowledgable about the site , lakes and local surroundings Nearby Sandwich is a lovely extremely old town , worth a few hours just strolling around the narrow streets and sucking up the history all around you . There are also some very fine old pubs and eateries , antiques and knick-nacks . Deal is a much larger seaside town with good shopping and a very steep pebble beach. The Coach and Horses (turn right towards sandwich) serves lovely food and the staff are absolutly lovely also The only slight downside for me is that there is a bit of road noise and the local military do occasionally low fly over the site , but this was for me a very minor gripe Whether you fish or not this is a lovely place to stay , i reccomend it

Beautiful setting

We have just returned from this site. Although we could not stay on the CL field, we never felt as though we missed out at all. The CL field has very tall trees around which offer wind and sun protection. Sun protection is not what we want, so we were more than happy to use the commercial site field next door. Grass lovely and short. Pitches spacious. Ground level. Electric hookup. Although we were not technically allowed to wander through the fishing lakes. We did and no one told us off. The fishermen were very friendly if you chatted to them and only too happy to tell you they caught one 'this big'. But did not take our dog with us. It has even got my husband wanting to try fishing. All in all our weekend (a bank holiday weekend) was most enjoyable not only the fact that as there are no children facillities there were very few children on site and the ones that were went fishing. Showers leave something to be desired for the men as fishermen are also able to use these. But the ladies is kept lovely and clean and plenty of hot water. Highly recommend this site. But would also like to keep it quiet so that we can go again and it be quiet.

Quiet and level grass site - only 4 EHUs

We received a friendly welcome and check-in, during which we were given a site rules sheet and told we must not go near the fishing lakes without buying a permit. Fair enough we supposed, but the rules were a bit overdone. We were lucky enough to get one of the 4 EHUs (these cannot be booked if staying only 1 night) but they are all on one post in the corner of a large field. Fortunately we had an extension cable to allow us to pitch away from the other site users. We paid £16 and feel this was ok as it included use of a shower and toilet - there is only one though for each sex. Dog walking had to be contained within the large (for a CL) site and the approach driveway. Recommended.

lovely stay

This gem of a place doesn't get full marks for two minor things. It is lovely and quiet, Barbara and Mike who run the place are helpful and very friendly. It is walking distance to Deal over the fields and to the fowlmead park nearby, both of which we visited with our dogs more or less daily as the dogs can stretch their legs. The site itself is away from the main thoroughfare and very quiet. This is a fishing complex with room for caravans, so remember that when booking. The two minor points from making it the perfect site are the toilet and shower facilities, although are very clean and well kept by Barbara and Mike, have only 1 male shower and 1 toilet, not a great problem and secondly, as a fishing complex you are not allowed to walk around the complex, which as a fisherman I can understand, but it makes the second point which prevents this site being perfect. Having said that, it's nearly perfect, so will be recommending it and returning ourselves sometime

Made very welcome

This CL is attached to a small commercial site for the keen fisherman. If the CL is full the price is the same on the adjoining site. Made very welcome throughout our stay by the lovely couple running the cafe/bar, open until 5pm daily.  Deal is a short 20 minute stroll along well trodden footpaths. There is also a tackle shop on site.  Shower & toilet facilities for both male & female are quite adequate. No disabled shower facilities.

No access to the lakes

We booked this weekend at Cottinton Lakes as we are keen on wildlife and photography. When we arrived we were informed as we were not fishing we could not go any where near the lakes. I feel that we should be told that at the time of booking, also the 4 point hook up all in one corner of a large field so we all have to be tucked in the one corner. Only one shower for the whole site which is not just caravan club.

Accessible and peaceful

We are normally wary of CLs that are attached to commercial sites/ fisheries etc, but this CL is separated from the rest of the complex by a belt of trees and is thus isolated from the various coming and goings associated with the fishery. It consists of a large level field, with the grass kept cut short, which has a pleasant outlook to one side with trees providing protection on the other three. The four EHUs are on one post in the corner of the field and thus long leads are required to space vans around the field. Water, loo disposal, and rubbish bins are all on the main site close to the entrance to the CL. We had an excellent, peaceful few days here, helped by reasonable weather for the time of year. Deal is an interesting old seaside town with a welcome lack of 'kiss me quick' facilities. The Kings Head on the seafront provided good food, excellent beer and is dog friendly. Sandwich is a delightful old port town (now inland) with a historic centre and pleasant walks along the river. Enjoy as we did. Paul, Maggie and Stella (the dog)

A pleasant site with plenty of space

A large field set aside exclusively for CC members - Access is easy - with 4 electric hook ups - the owner will lend extension cables so that the caravans can be spaced around the field. A very good location to explore East Kent - very good for English Heritage sites - some good beaches and places to visit. some good pubs nearby. Unfortunately the lakes are for fishing only( I am told that the fishing is excellent) - it would have been nice to have been able to walk around them. There is a large site for non CC caravans, tents and statics as part of the complex. We were there at a quiet time - I wonder if the single (male) toilet and shower would be enough if the site was very busy.
