Peaceful and relaxing site

Just come back from the most peaceful and relaxing campsite we have stayed on. So quiet. Nothing was too much for the owners, dog walk was spotless. Shower nice and hot. We will be back!

Lovely 4 day stay here

Just spent a lovely 4 days here at Crabbswood and we will definitely be back. Perfect location to visit some truly beautiful places. Welcomed by the owner who kindly gave us advice on the best places to visit. The site is lovely and well maintained and so peaceful. A little hidden gem ideally located. Already can’t wait to come back.

Expensive

I spent one night here, with my 7m motorhome, and Astra car, in late September mid week. Charged £24. I have just spent a month in Caravan Club sites, even the newly refurb'd Brecon. Never have I paid so much, for so little. Nice field, dirty toilets, and shambolic toilet emptying (just a piece of wood over the drain, no handle etc!).

Room For Improvement

This site is near the village of Sway on the edge of the New Forest and not far from the coast, Bournemouth and Lymington. There are some shops and pubs nearby, but these are best accessed by car. It is a good size site, plenty big enough to accommodate 5 outfits and was generally well kept. There was a pile of rubble sacks in the corner of the field and a collection of glass bottles awaiting recycling lying on the ground, but, they weren’t really noticeable until you walked passed them on the way to the toilet. The next door field doubles as a children’s play area and separate, roped off, dog exercise area. The toilet, wash basin - with hot and cold water - and shower (20p for 5 mins) are all contained within one room. Of course this means that if the shower is in use you could have a long wait for the toilet. It is not helped by the fact that these facilities are shared with another campsite on the same property. This room was in quite a tired and rundown state. It was also quite dirty and, while we were there, it was not cleaned for the first 4 days of our stay. The owner of the site was quite friendly and certainly very helpful when we had a problem with the caravan. This is a site that I really wanted to like, but ultimately ended up feeling a little disappointed with. I couldn’t see why the sacks had to be there, nor why the bottles could not have been kept in a container. Also, the wash room needs improvement, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect it to be cleaned every day. It’s a shame these things let it down, but with a bit of effort this could become a very nice site to visit.

Fab Weekend!

May 2011. Very helpful and friendly owner. Facilities were clean and tidy. We cycled to Hurst Castle and ate a lovely meal at the Gun Inn. We were able to cycle to most places but a car would be more appropriate to be honest.

Should be adults only

We visited here last year. We pre-booked and pre-paid and gave full details of our family unit. On arrival at the site we were quickly told that our 5 year old was NOT allowed to ride his bike on site or play any ball games whatsoever, not even with a beach ball. I understand that this is the case with a lot of sites but this should be pointed out before bookings are made. We were basically made to feel very unwelcome within minutes of arriving because of this. Not the friendliest of site owners in our opinion unfortunately. I really think they should consider marking this site as adults only.
