Great location, friendly and helpful owners,

We were greeted by the owners who were really friendly and helpful. We were given a level pitch by Alison, but there are some sloping pitches so make sure to bring your chocks. The site is really pretty with the beck at the bottom and its a nice 5 minute stroll into the village. There is a dog walk that runs into the village and through the site. Alison gave us some maps of nearby walks as well. The local pub is dog friendly and serves food. You can walk into Bedale, its about an hour and is mainly off road. The site is a good location to explore other areas, we drove into Leyburn and surrounding areas. We really liked this site and will return in the future

Peaceful and picturesque

The site is in a good location just off the A1. A couple of minutes walk into the centre that has a lovely pub. The site is sloping, and the owner being aware of this was very helpful in siting our motor home. Blocks were needed to level the vehicle. The site is very scenic and picturesque with good dog walks We will use this site again

peaceful friendly welcoming site

just returned home after a week at Crakehall site, our first time there, Lionel and Alison run the site and couldn't be any kinder, friendly and helpful. Plenty of space, we parked next to the water so very tranquil had lovely weather, very easy to travel about lots of local places to visit, you do need levelling blocks as stated , Alison very conscious about cleaning everything, and Lionel made me some flour that I can't wait to bake some bread with, thank you for a lovely time, Debbie and David.

Peaceful and Tranquil

Crakehall Watermill is a very peaceful and tranquil site on a slope beside a beck that feeds the mill. As others have said, levelling on the slope can be a challenge. As we are new to caravanning it took us a couple of attempts to find just the right spot, but it’s worth it. Pitches are allocated and Alison and Lionel are great hosts; very friendly and attentive. There are water points and electric hookups on two sides of the site, so easy to use. The surrounding area has lots of walks locally and the valley of Wensleydale through Leyburn up to Hawes is a beautiful part of North Yorkshire.

Idyllic surroundings nestled beside a stream

What a beautiful site this is although can be problematic when pitching due to its slope. The owners are very knowledgeable about the area and gave lots of ideas on places to visit. They can also give you maps of local village walks. Due to Covid the toilet wasn't open for use but there is plenty of hand santiser at the water points and elsan point to maintain safe cleaning. Situated just a few miles from Bedale and all that the surrounding yorkshire dales has to offer it is ideal as a base. There is a footpath straight from the site which is great to walk your dogs. You are situated at thr edge of the village and a lical pub. A great base to explore and one we hopento return to in the near future.

Lovely location, very friendly and helpful owners, sloping site

The site owners, Lionel and Alison, were very helpful and attentive at all times, and very conscientious about Covid 19 precautions - we arrived two days after re-opening. I was sent plenty of information and guidance by Alison before we stayed, and Lionel was on site to meet all of us as we arrived. The location behind the working watermill is lovely, and Crakehall is very attractive with its large village green, though it carries a let of traffic going into Wensleydale. Bedale is a delightful town, access being exactly as described, through the fields or on the good pavement by the A684. The only limitation of the site is the slope. We managed to chock up one side of the caravan and almost got it fully level, but every pitch has some issues with the slope, especially for motorhomes. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the pleasantness of the site and area compensated for the slight difficulty in pitching.

A place to return to

We have visited this site twice now, and it is firmly on our return visit list. It is a beautiful spot, in a small field, and very friendly owners. You can walk into Bedale almost entirely on footpaths through fields - it is a very tranquil walk. The site is well looked after, too, and we reckon it is good value. There is a toilet, plenty of leaflets, a map of local walks that you can borrow, and hook ups. Because the field is not huge, and there is a water tap on each side, that is pretty handy too.
