The site is as all reviews say outstanding. The owner really care about their site. This is just a warning to other users. We stayed on sites 2 weeks then move on. Having left site in may I waited to see what other sites with metered electricity compared. This site is by far the most expensive. My bill at end was 105 I only paid 95. Didn’t use hot plate . Caravan set at 1kg heating set at 21. Two other sites we stayed One was 15 a night we used max4 to 5 pounds at day. The other 25 a night will 10 units of electricity. Didn’t use it all. The owner said they were charged at a higher rate because they were a commercial run business. Have talked to other owners they all agree they only pay about 40 pence per unit. I have thought a lot before writing this.

Stop on way from Norfolk to Obam

The site was perfect for our needs. We only stayed for one night but the owners were so friendly. As soon as I mentioned I had horses I was invited to see Poppy - resident Clydesdale. The site was peaceful, beautifully kept and surrounded by lovely views and cows - which provided us all with some entertainment by escaping into a new field of grass. Would highly recommend- and felt a little short changed we’d only stayed for one night. Facilities were perfect and well maintained.

Just perfect!

This CL has it all - huge, level, fully serviced hardstanding pitches; stunning views over the Dales; easy access and wonderful hosts in Val and Andrew who made our stay so enjoyable. The fact that they're caravanners shows in the detail and pure quality of the site - it's faultless. Already booked for a few days over New Year - can't wait to return! Many thanks Val & Andrew

First visit and possibly now our favourite CL.

We’ve just returned from Croft Ends after a 9 day stay. Lovely warm welcome on our arrival from Val and Andrew who are rightly very proud of their site. Easy access to the site and the fully serviced pitches which take in the fantastic views of the north Pennine fells around Dufton and Murton. As mentioned by others the recycling and waste areas are immaculate and emptied very regularly. There are numerous walks directly from the site to the surrounding countryside and Appleby itself is a very pleasant 35-40 minute walk across fields, tracks and part of the old Roman road. We felt the following were well worth visiting. Larch Cottage, Melkinthorpe, an award-winning gardens and nursery with a restaurant and shop. Winderwarth Gardens in Temple Sowerby, where you can buy a selection of well-priced plants and shrubs as well as walking around the grounds. The Stag at Dufton offers excellent food with a good range of beers and good quality food. Their pies are all gluten free (we were told the chef has been on a GF cookery course). Val and Andrew are always available but never intrusive. We shall certainly return as we barely scratched the surface of this lovely, unspoilt part of the country.

What a find! No one could be disappointed with this site.

We’ve just come back from a fortnight’s stay at Croft Ends Farm CL in Cumbria. Five minutes drive from Appleby and an ideal location to explore the surrounding areas. It has five large, fully serviced hardstanding pitches that anyone can book. Passing through that small site you enter the CL, which again has five large, fully serviced hardstanding pitches. The two O.75 acres sites are divided by a high hedge. There are beautiful views across to the North Pennines. No shower, but there is a toilet. We use our own facilities, so I can’t review it. The grass areas were immaculate. CDP and recycling and rubbish bins area, with a separate CDP point for the private site. There’s no road noise, though as expected in the country there was some bird noise, the occasional moo of a cow and the bleat of a sheep. The owners take real pride in the site and are friendly and welcoming. The current cost is £22 per night. Electricity is on top at 65p per unit. We used roughly 1 1/2 bottles of gas = £42. Electricity 32.5 units = £21. £4.50 a day in energy. We have Alde heating and Alde Flow. We ran that on gas. We were happy with the total daily cost of £26.50 for the two of us. No charges for awnings or pets, but for an additional person it’s £5 a night. Well behaved children are welcome on the site at no extra charge. Dogs welcome, but must be kept on a lead. There are a couple of pubs within two to three miles. The Masons Arms in Long Marton is basic, but the food was good. The Stagg Inn in Dufton was excellent, although the service was a bit slow. We don’t mind that. I say if you want fast food, go to McDonalds. If you are celebrating a special occasion or even if you are not, The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite is worth a visit. It’s our second time there and the food and service did not disappoint. Supermarkets: there’s a well stocked, but expensive Co Op in Appleby. A Spar shop too. The closest large supermarkets are in Penrith. If you go to the Tourist Information in Appleby, you can get a free parking disc that allows you to park for two to three hours as per the signs in Appleby. It’s issued by Cumbria County Council and as such can be used across the county. It’s similar to the scheme in Northumberland. https://legacy.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/elibrary/Content/Internet/544/926/44176161917.pdf http://appleby-in-westmorland.org/appleby-parking.htm We are members of EH, NT and HH. As per usual we made full use of our membership. Castles, churches, stately homes and Abbies. No matter what the weather, we find something to do! With the added bonus of a couple of trips to Shap to see mainline steam hauled excursions and of course you are very close to the Settle & Carlisle line. All in all another gem of a find and I would recommend this CL to anyone.

Large well equipped pitches

Lovely large pitches with stunning views of high cup nick which is accessible for a beautiful hike. All pitches had grey waste drains which was a nice feature. The adjoining campfield shared the toilet which did lead to some queuing in the mornings. There was some noise from the adjoing campsite from some your puppies.Applebey was somewhat disappointing on a Sunday with most cafes closed.. Lovely site overall.

Amazing Peaceful Site

Spent 3 nights on this lovely site on 9th August. Very friendly welcome - shown to our spacious fully serviced pitch with fantastic views. Owners helpful and friendly. Would have liked to have stayed much longer. We rode our electric bikes around the local villages and did some short walks - unfortunately it was too hot to do the walks we would have liked but we will definitely return. Appleby is a lovely little place and we found the locals were great . We took the train to Carlisle and met friends for lunch - lovely scenic train ride. Plenty of things to do locally.

Fantastic little site

Just got back from a 5 night stay at this little gem, if its peace and quiet you want this is the place. Very neat and tidy site, huge washroom and toilet(spotless clean), huge pitches with own drain and EHU Appleby is a 35 min walk, no footpath for the first two thirds but local drivers are great no problems, Also you need to go to the local bakers in Long Marton another short walk from site All in all a lovely stay and will return to this one

Great views and user friendly

We have just come back from a short break here (en route home) and have booked a week in August. Great views and a level hardstanding pitch with its own water supply. We visited Barnard Castle (Bowes Museum) which we very much liked - we took the long way round over Alston (what a road that is.....). Will go into the Lakes next time. Owners are nice and helpful.
