Aircraft are a Bonus

We were drawn to Dakota Park having read about its proximity to RAF Coningsby and the potential to see military aircraft coming and going, including the RAF Typhoon Display Team practices (three slots made available, generally only the mid morning and afternoon slots were used). That said there were comings and goings of aircraft during the day, including the display team practices during the week. From our point of view we were delighted. If you aren't in to aircraft I don't believe they were particularly intrusive. Best of both worlds. The directions in the members' book and also given by the owner are good However do be aware the CL is off a long straight road and a night time arrival has to have a considered approach. It is signed and the owner's directions are good. If you overshoot it isn't a disaster. On arrival we received a warm welcome from the owner who gave us the choice of pitch and a comprehensive folder full of information about the local area with things to see and do. The CL is quite new (2 years old) and it shows in the sparkling facilities(fresh water, grey water / elsan, rubbish & recycling). Pitches are modest in size (we are used to farmers fields!) but plenty of space for car, 'van and awning with space between units exceeding fire advice. Each pitch has a 16amp EHU. The local area is heaving in RAF history from WW2 to the present day. RAF Consingsby hosts the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The visitor centre is free to enter, hanger tours at modest cost. Woodhall Spa, RAF Scampton (home of the Red Arrows), Lincolnshire Aviation Centre and many other aviation / WW2 themed destinations are all within modest driving distance. The rear of the CL overlooks open agricultural fields over which the most marvellous sunrises are to be seen, likewise in the evening some of the sunsets were stunning (Feb 2018). I marked the CL a four for peace & tranquillity due to occasional road noise and the odd aircraft movement. Also a four for beauty and scenery as we love hills and well Lincolnshire is renowned for being flat. That said the Lincolnshire Wolds are to be seen, not far from the CL either. Will we return? In a word yes. The CL is immaculate, charming owner and there is just so much history to see and visit. Gunby House and Tattersall Castle (both NT) are close by and are worth visiting. Nature reserves aren't far away either. Don't be put off by the proximity of the road or the aircraft, you don't want to miss a little gem of a CL.
