An excellent and very friendly CL. The approach roads are a bit narrow and care needs to be taken, but you are rewarded with epic views and a very friendly welcome.
This has to be in my top 5 CL sites.
Fantastic’
What a fantastic site. We stayed for two nights as a stop while touring the north coast of Scotland. The site is small and on a working croft. It was only us when we arrived and it stayed that way for the whole two nights! The major take away from this site is the outstanding view. We spent hours sat outside the caravan just looking at it.
There is plenty to do around the area. We went for a walk through Ledmore and Migdale woods / Loch. We’d recommending using the walking app ‘AllTrails’ for this. We brought a picnic blanket and sat on the Loch side enjoying the view as the dog had a swim. We also had a wonder round Balblair woods, as well as the Falls of Shin where we saw some jumping salmon! Bonar Bridge is good for picking up supplies from the Spar shop. Unfortunately, pubs/ restaurants seemed non existent or shut down. However, just over the bridge there is a lovely view of the Kyle of Sutherland with some interesting information.
To get there, use google maps on a smartphone. That will take you directly there. Old school satnav took us to a completely different farm resulting in some awkward tight turning around of the caravan.
Russ and Evelyn were incredibly welcoming. Knocked on the door to check in (the site is basically their back garden!) and paid for the two nights via bank transfer. WiFi is supplied and signal is strong. There are also recycling/waste points and a chemical toilet disposal point too.
The hosts left us to our own devices for the duration of the stay, although upon leaving Evelyn offered us home grown cucumbers and mustard leaves for our travels - hugely appreciated!
The area was quiet, apart from the lovely bleating of sheep, which you’d only expect from a working croft! Even the tractor driver who periodically drove past the site would give us a friendly wave.
Overall, hugely recommend for an authentic remote highlands stop.
Oh, and drive carefully around the area as there are a BUNCH of bunnies hopping about!
Just the ticket
We have now been to this site for over 10 years for our main holiday. Our unit is a caravan and car so we day trip. As said the site is basic but that’s what you expect from a CL which is why we like it so much. We go for the setting, quietness and views looking down over Bona Bridge, Midge dale and the Dornoch Firth. One year we spotted wild otters feeding in the river just outside of Bona Bridge from the road and plenty of local wild life. The owners are very friendly and will advise on the local area and also sell some home-made produce from their door way. At night you get some of the best star filled skies with very little or no light pollution. It is an ideal place to tour most of northern Scotland as the roads are so good; many times, we have had supper on the far North West coast and been back on site in an hour or so. The dog loves it too as you will find no end of very good walks for all standards many well marked, we have found many that are wheelchair friendly as we have a mobility scooter or just visit one of the forests which have walker’s welcome signs. The local services are very good with many big supermarkets set up in and around Tain. If you travel around there are plenty of good hotels and restaurants to eat at locally or further afield serving all tastes.
Lovely Views
This site is what you make it! To all intents and purposes it would seem its in the owners back garden but the views are lovely. The hard standings are basic but there is the usual fresh water, electrics and waste facilities. The owner did kindly show us a field in which we could exercise our dog but we didnt use it as our dog is prone to eating sheep poo etc and making herself ill because of it! Whilst we were there we did experience some road noise when a neighbour who lives below the site came and went past during the night a few times in a vehicle which, althought I am sure they were trying to be quiet, did disturb us especially when banging vehicle doors. Nonetheless we would go back if only for the views.
What a disappoinment
Booked for three nights but left without staying, what a tired and neglected site this is the gate was tied with baling twine to keep it closed which set the standard for the whole place, the two hard standings were not in the same condition as shown in the picture on the web site both were covered in soil, grass and a good layer of moss and one was sloping down to a drop in the corner of the field. There was no ehu near to either of these pitches meaning our cable would have to trail across the site and other guests would have drive over cable on entry and exit making it a H&S issue.
The views are beautiful with a bit of effort and cash injected to make improvements could be a real gem.

If Carlsberg did views
Wow.
What a find … met and greeted by owners on arrival.
It’s off the beaten track but walks and views amazing
Provides electric water and waste disposal no other facilities but for the price it’s very good
I would return here the view is off the radar so good

Outstanding views over the Dornaock Firth to the east and the Kyle of Sutherland to the west.
What a wonderful view of crofts, lochs and valley from this CL site.
The site is pretty small, but very secluded though we had no trouble finding it along a single track road with passing places.. Russ the owner who lives next to the site was helpful on arrival and left us to our own devices.
Lovely place to be based, we stayed for twelve nights while hubby and daughter did some of the North Coast 500, I stayed and shopped in Tain, and Dornoch and visited Dunrobin Castle just up the coast. We loved the seaside fishing village of Portmaholmack about 15 miles away, it made us want to move in to the village!
We visited the Falls of Shin and saw salmon leaping and visited Lairg ..can recommend the Pier Cafe.
Definitely lots to do and see, we even fitting in a trip to Orkney catching the ferry/coach at John o'Groats for the day.
Can recommend
Peace and Quiet Assured
The site is well off the beaten track but this adds to the charm of the site, the family cant do enough to help you if you have a problem when i hooked up to the electric I could not get 240v power but after a couple of days faffing about we managed to restore 240v by disconnecting leisure battery as it was not in the best of health but that was after call to my caravan servicing agent. I must get back to matter in hand the review of this lovely site great area to walk your dog in the single track roads around the place. the views of the firth are spectacular from the site. I highly recommend going into the nearest town of Bonar Bridge as there are a few good places to eat and drink plus its a good place to jump off from to explore the area. I could ramble on but say come check it for yourself you wont be disappointed in the areas beauty.
What else would you want.
Wow so good we stayed longer going north and again coming back south.
Wonderful owners, wonderful views and above all peace and quite.
Its a working croft so you may meet the occasional sheep or even one of the collies' checking out your unit, after all it is their field....lol
We were in a motor-home so didn't use the prescribed route, but had no problem, but if towing follow the signs not your GPS.
Nice stroll into town so long as you remember any hill you go down has to be walked back up......
Free range eggs and some homemade produce available.
Would we stay again...for sure.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
A lovely Highland CL with breathtaking views out over Loch Migdale and the mountains with lovely quiet walks close at hand and an ideal location from which to explore this part of the Highlands. Evelyn and Russell were very kind and attentive and we felt very welcome. Thank you for a lovely holiday and we look forward very much to coming back one day soon.
