Lovely site, great location

We've just returned from a 3 night stay here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site and the farm buildings are all very well kept with no open manholes as the previous review mentioned. The pitches are very well spaced out with lovely views from all of them and very peaceful. The toilet emptying is a little further away than most are but wasn't a problem and it was working perfectly ok. You can get straight into the forest from the site so great for dog walking and mountain biking. The beach is a mile away with a fantastic coastal walk to Kippford. There's a pub a 15-20 minute walk selling good food and beer. The owner was very friendly and welcoming and we'll certainly return at some stage

Peace and quiet? Not!!!

Arrived here on 12 June. Knew we were coming to a working farm, but should have been advised not to come as they were silage making. To access one of the fields, we had 4 tractors passing our caravan within a couple of feet from 8.30 pm till 9pm the previous night. Then came the muck spreading. Tonight, the tractors have been hard at work, still working and it is past midnight now. Access to the site is between farm buildings, no problem there, except for a collapsed manhole in the yard which were lucky to avoid. It would have done extensive damage had a car or caravan wheel gone down it. Also the cover on the elsan disposal is broken and on a steep gradient away from the site. We shall not be returning. Also charged £12 a night and notice that only a few weeks ago in May, that reviewer was only charged £10.

very rural location

Down a b road about 4miles from town of Dalbeattie, easy to miss sign barn wall. Came out to see us told us to drive down to field did not tell us anything was. Toilet disposable hole water pipe cover badly broken on Restaurant & pub in complex of chalets 15min walk. Camp site very peaceful very beautiful countryside. For £10 ok price very basic hardstanding.

Very peaceful & dog friendly

We stayed here initially for 4 nights in July but liked it so much that we managed to extend our stay for 2 weeks. Even though it was a working farm the site was below the farm itself so any noise wasn't too bad. Very dog friendly place, Jet (the dog), really enjoyed herself here with lots of walks in the forest, & down to the beach at Sandyhills, which was very clean & litter free. We could let the dog off the lead on the track down to the fields where she met horses for the first time, absolutely fascinated by the way, kept on trying to get them to play with her. The owner Mrs Jardine couldn't have been more friendly or helpful to us during our stay, especially when she organised us to stay in the farmyard for one night, when the site was fully booked, in order for us to stay our 2nd week here. An excellent place for peace & quiet, we fully intend to return here in the autumn for another 2 weeks

Typical farm based CL in a beautiful location.

We just had a long weekend at this site in October - lovely quiet spot with electric hook up and all the basics. View is over a few fields to Dalbeattie Forest which you can walk into directly from the site. Was superb for us and our dogs. Best thing about this site for us is its location - perfect holiday spot - two forests on the doorstep and just minutes from the glorious Sandyhills beach. We were completely spoilt as we had the site to ourselves and the weather was wonderful. I expect we will be back soon - slightly reluctant to write this review as I feel its a bit of a hidden secret at the moment!

Quiet, quiet, quiet!

This site is a large low walled paddock surrounded by fields a short distance from the farm. There is a centre spine of hard standing with five ‘van wide hard standing pitches on one side and a large grass area on the other. It is well away from everything apart from the farm and its activities, with a pub/eaterie about one mile away, and a shop a bit further. Motor transport does put a lot more places within reach including the town of Dalbeattie.

Google maps aerial view is more up-to-date than the maps as there is now a road and culvert that lets one walk/cycle over to Dalbeattie Forest. Views are restricted by surrounding hills. Not surprisingly, there is no phone signal on O2, Orange or Vodafone but there is free wifi in the pub down the road.

A better route to the site for many will be to leave the A711 about a mile north of Dalbeattie and turn onto the B793 heading south east. Fork right in about 4 miles and site is on right immediately after a side road joins on the left.

Campervan visit July 2014

An idyllic location for those who enjoy the peace and quiet in this beautiful part of Scotland. Lots of walking and cycling opportunities direct from site. Hard standing pitches with well kept grass surrounds. Easy access for freshwater filling for motorhome. Friendly and helpful owner who can advise about the local walks and bike trails.

Excellent views

Stayed here a couple of summers ago for a week. Weather absolutely fantastic. The only rain we had was on the day we left! Views really good. This is a working farm and we found it fascinating watching the sheep being herded ready for "dipping". The working dogs are a joy to watch. Access good, lots of lovely places to visit. Views great, nice and quiet, would recommend and will visit again.
