Ease of arrival/welcome

Lovely site for Christmas and New Year break.

We have recently returned from a seventeen night stay at Firs Cottage over Christmas and New Year. Brian met us on arrival and after choosing our pitch, he explained the facilities to us and some areas of local interest. Although the weather had been wet in the days preceding our visit the site was clean and tidy and clearly well looked after. The pitches are fully serviced, each with a water point, ehu and grey water disposal. There was a central, discretely hidden toilet emptying point, complete with a hand cleaner dispenser (a very nice touch not seen on other sites we have visited). There are no toilets or shower block but that was not an issue as we use our on-board facilities. By the entrance gate is the waste and recycling area with clearly labelled bins and a dog poo bin. Centrally situated is a small but packed information shed with lots of information on the local area, some home made produce and books and other items. The site is well laid out around a central green with bird feeders, bird nest boxes and insect nest boxes around the site. We visited nearby a Much Wenlock, which has some stunning old buildings and a priory. Firs Cottage is located centrally for visiting Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Bewdley, Ironbridge and Telford. Lots of National Trust Properties and English Heritage properties within a reasonable distance, the Severn Valley Railway is close by at Bridgnorth and well worth a visit as I would imagine, are the various museums in Ironbridge (we didn’t get to visit them on this occasion). During our visit the weather was wet and I was unwell so we did not get out to explore the area as much as we would have liked. However I would like to say that Brian and Alison are great hosts, attentive to their guests and have made Firs Cottage, for us, the best CL we have visited in five years caravanning. We can’t wait to return to the site in better weather and for us to explore the surrounding area. The local birds must be some of the best fed in Shropshire and made for some lovely entertainment whilst we were in the caravan.
