Ease of arrival/welcome

Very disappointing, run down, unkempt and uncared for, never saw the owner. Eventually found someone to pay but he was quite rude.

We arrived on site, although nearly missed it as the site plaque was covered over by weeds as was the faded British Tourist board notice obviously from years gone by. The driveway was very uneven and in a poor state of repair. No-one around to tell us where to go, apparently there is a sign on a gate, but the gate was open already open and held back by overgrown weeds. The field was in a poor state, grass was rather long and there were lines of mown grass just left lying around so made a mess in the caravan and car everytime you went out. We looked for the electrics to eventually discover them covered by old blue plastic barrels. Pitching was not easy as the field was sloping and very uneven Made even more difficult by being unable to see the dips because of the length of the grass. We set up in the flattest part of the field we could find but were then overshadowed by overgrown trees. To get to the facilities, we had to walk past a dilapidated barn, which appeared to be used as a dumping ground for old furniture and general rubbish. The chemical disposal facility was at a good height but was difficult to access as nettles had been left to grow high all around the four sides. There were also nettles growing around the water supply. We were there for a full week and not once did we see an owner, I went up to the house a number of times to pay but there appeared to be no one about. On our final night, I went up later and did get a reply. I asked if I could pay our dues and the conversation went virtually, 'How many nights have you been here?'. I replied 7'. He said 'that's £15 pound a night'. I replied, '£105' as I offered the money. He said, 'Yes, thank you' and closed the door. Never asked if everything was ok, or anything. We were both so disappointed with the site and the state of neglect. This is the most expensive site we have been on and sad to say this is the first time we have had such a bad and disappointing experience and this is the first negative review we have ever put up in eleven years. I notice a review last year also mentioned it being in need of some TLC but sadly, nothing appears to have been done. I did take photos but unfortunately I cannot post them on here. This could have been a lovely site with just a bit of care in a beautiful part of the country.
