summer at gatewick ??????

Just spent two weeks at Gatewick Farm, apart from the weather it was very enjoyable, the pitches are large, very level and private, only quibble we were on pitch 5 which flooded when we had a lot of rain. The toilets and shower were in pristine condition with plenty of very hot free water although you had to walk 100 yards to them, Access was so easy following the instructions and the gaited entrance was very very good, In nearly 40 years of caravanning it was the first time we never saw the owners of the site which we thought was a little odd all we saw was a girl in the office. We would have no problems what so ever of going back to Gatewick farm . The electric system was ok but we found putting in £5 was far better value than putting in £1 vouchers as £1 never went very far compaired to putting in £5 ratio if that makes sense!!! , Another little gripe there is no recycling of rubbish on site . Happy Caravanning ,

Well organised site in a great location

The site is within walking distance of the enchanting village of Steyning, loads of good restaurants and cafes. The site is very well laid out, we had a hard standing and there was plenty of space. I particularly liked the metered electricity, it meant that I was not restricted in what I could use and the charge was very reasonable. The owners were very helpful and pleasant, they sent plenty of useful information with the confirmation of booking.

Great CL

From the booking process to the site itself was a very positive experience. Security at the CL is excellent with CCTV and electronic gates. Pitches are very spacious and are level, we didn't need to use any levellers. Good quality toilet facilities. You need to be aware that the per night price doesn't include electric hook up which is metered. This is an area with much to offer from beaches, wildlife, culture etc. RSPB Pullborough Brooks is only 7 miles away. We would definitely return if in the area.

Second visit as good as the first!

This was our second visit to this site, this time in April rather than May. Still as good as we remembered. Was the only van on site for the first half of the week. Lovely hard-standing pitch - which was a benefit when it rained towards the end of the week. Not sure about the previous comments made about hill to toilet/shower area, not that bad a gradient and it can be accessed by car if necessary. Electric - as before - used £7 in 7 nights, cheaper than paying as part of pitch cost! Excellent for exploring the area of Brighton and beyond and Steyning is still worth a visit. Will be back. You are sent details of your pitch, etc, ahead of your stay which makes it a pain-free arrival. Only thing I would add would be a suggestion to have an area for 'leaflets/local information' to save a trip to a tourist information centre, especially as you now have a hut which is open 6 days per week? Thank you and we will be back.

Pitch Perfect

Have just returned from 2 very relaxing nights at Gatewick Farm. This was our 2nd stay at this CL its our favourite by far. A beautiful field in a beautiful setting. Plenty of room for our 4 children to unwind and come bed time plenty of peace and quiet for my wife and I to do some unwinding. With an unfaltering hookup and clean tidy shower facilities its a winner for us :-). Have booked our next visit already!!

Good location

Stayed for 3 nights over the Mayday bank holiday. Good size pitches and the shower and toilet were very clean and modern. Fair walk for anyone who is not very mobile - it does say that it is 140m on the info you receive when booking but it is an uphill walk so worth mentioning this. The electricity is on pre-paid cards. We had not come across this before - put a fiver on and stupidly forgot to turn off the heating overnight and had used £3 by saturday morning. Topped up with another fiver in case we ran out and ended up leaving a generous £3.50 for the next guest on pitch 3!! Good location for exploring the area

Brilliant site with great location

Firstly, I would like to say how lovely the owners were during our stay. We did go up to the house on a couple of occasions to purchase a pre-paid card for the electric point, which was our first experience of this, but was very easy and even less expensive per night than what we normally pay for electric. The field was large, giving plenty of room between pitches. The security on the site is amazing. The toilet and shower facilities are kept very clean. It is an ideal site for exploring the local area and the village is very pretty with some really nice shops. In short a very lovely site, not sure of the negative points which have been made here, but we will definitely be visiting again based on the lovely week we spent there. Thank you.

Easter Break 2014

We were on this site for 9 nights over the Easter week, having been a regular user for approx the last 7 years. We like the area, and the site itself is well kept. But the usually nice clean shower and toilet area was, for the first part of the week, a bit of a mess. This problem seemed to be resolved once a certain group of people were ejected from the site! First time we've encountered any such problems. Back there again very soon!

Yet another wonderful break

Have just returned from another long weekend at Gatewick Farm as always it was perfect. Don't understand what the previous review was about as we have been staying here for years and find all the family very helpful, friendly and welcoming every time. Which is why we keep returning.

Not at all the normal CL welcome ........

I am sure this site is lovely in normal times but when we stayed the proper CL field was still soggy and only 2 caravans were using it (occupying 2 of the 3 hardstanding sites). This meant 5 other vans were crammed like sardines on the top field - we had a choice of squeezing in between other people or parking near the unsightly barn with tatty old vehicles in it. Neither was ideal.

The site owner, who had been immensely helpful before our arrival was on holiday and his daughter was in charge. Sadly she had none of the customer service skills we have come to expect at CL sites. She did not even have the rudimentary basics of friendliness and politeness- at one point swearing (using the "f" word) in front of the two children.. She complained that our awning was a tent - although later admitted it was an awning - we simply could not have attached it as the guy ropes would have been on top of the car next to us! As it was, our awning ropes had to slightly encroach on our other neighbour- although we checked with him that we were not causing him any problem. The daughter still complained about that too though!!. She complained our dogs had barked & that there was dog poo on the site. Our dogs had barked  - when one of her dogs roaming free had come up and started a fight and as other site members said, the dog poo on site was from her own dogs. We do not leave mess for others to clean up!!! Her approach was negative and petulant. It is a pity the brother does not run the site when the parents are away as he was helpful, cheerful and friendly as site owners should be. I teach businesses about delivering good customer service & this is a classic example of how the attitude of one person can have a massive impact.

All rather a shame as the toilet and shower were nice and clean and the shower lovely and hot. The normal field was well spaced out and further from the road so would have been more tranquil had it been usable.. The site is in a good spot so ticks a lot of boxes but I wouldn't recommend going if you have to stay on the top field or when the daughter is in charge.

On a minor note the sign on the main road can be difficult to spot- particularly on a night.
