11 nights in rural Shropshire

We booked and stayed for 11 nights on this small CL in rural Shropshire. The location was perfect for exploring Shropshire including walks along Wenlock Edge, the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones. Much Wenlock Priory and Stokesay Castle were also close by and highlights of our trip. The CL is in need of some TLC, as per previous reviews, the hard standing pitches are rather overgrown, and some searching is needed to locate the drainage point on some pitches. The existing toilets (2no), showers (2no) and washing up sinks (2no) are ‘cleaned’ infrequently, and toilet paper is ‘topped up’ infrequently (only one spare roll in each toilet if lucky) which on busy weekends can lead to toilet paper shortages! The ‘under construction’ toilet/shower block sits rather forlornly unloved and unfinished, and looking back at previous reviews, has been in this condition for approaching 5 years. We did see the owner (Kate) on a couple of occasions during our stay, but not ‘actively’ engaging with new arrivals or information. The owners appear to leave it to existing pitch occupiers to ‘help’ any new arrivals with site briefings or help (an existing pitch occupier helped us on arrival and we help three new arrivals in return). A basic CL in a rural location.

Tranquility in the rural Shropshire countryside

Shropshire is a lovely county. It doesn't get the same appreciation as some other counties, but it should. Shrewsbury is a very interesting city not far from the site and the small town of Church Stretton is well worth a visit. Set in the rolling countryside, the site is maybe in need of a touch of TLC. All the facilities are in place, it's just that they're a bit tired. As others have commented, the toilet block that never was, silently dominates like the elephant in the room. Obviously begun to up grade the existing facilities, for one reason or another, it has never been completed. This is a big shame as the current existing toilet block, although clean, is past its best. It is also attached to the private house of the proprietor and you do feel as though you're entering their garden. Also, as others have commented, we never at any time during our stay saw the proprietor, however for us this wasn't a problem. These points are just ones to bear in mind. Our stay was great and the size of the pitches were very generous. My husband worked for 2 days using the free WiFi and it worked fine. The site is popular and was full over the weekend and we will be back for a short break stay in the future.

Peaceful, friendly site

We were welcomed by Katie and her girls, and made ourselves comfortable. The showers and loos are nice and clean and there are plenty of places, including the field in front of the site, where it was possible to walk our dogs. Very nice and we would return again.

Absolute Gem

What an amazing peaceful site. All the facilities are fantastic, large pitches and beautiful views. When you arrive just set up on an available pitch, put your pitch fee in the box in the shower block and relax. The owners are very friendly and pop over to say hello. We were allowed to walk the dog across the fields in front of the site which was a big bonus. Absolutly no negatives at all, we will be returning as soon as possible to this little piece of heaven.

Lovely CL with good facilities

Arrived late Friday for a weekend stay. Rang en route and Kate explained we could pitch up and contact her in the morning. When we did she (and her kids) were lovely and even gave us some milk as we had forgotten it! Site has good views of hills, very quiet, all hardstanding and electrics with a toilet block with 2 showers. Great access to the Long Mynd (10 mins) and Ironbridge (25mins) amongst many other attractions - will definitely be back.

Lovely Quite Site

Kate and Paul who own the site were very welcoming and supportive. They allowed us to stay for 5 days even though we only booked for two days, when my husband was admitted to Shrewsbury Royal with pneumonia. Motorhome was on hardstanding. Shower and toilet block clean and plenty of hot water. Lovely tranquil site with beautiful views and lovely walks for dog. Two pubs within walking distance. The only downside was that there is no public transport to Shrewsbury or even Church Stretton. Would definitely stay there again but would take scooter for transport from motorhome.

Lack of Interest

We have just spent one week here and in the main the cl is ok. However there does seem to be a lack of interest from the owners. Signs of TLC were lacking There was no answer to the door on arrival so we just chose one of the 7 pitches and set up. The site is slightly sloping and pitches offer hard standing but even so this does not prevent the site holding water. We had one night of constant rain and the next morning the 3 pitches down the side of the field had filled with water to various amounts. The site entrance hard core surface being worn and hollow was full of water. Nothing to serious, but not difficult to put right. There were no signs as to where to empty grey water so it was either down the Elsan point or in the hedge bottom. The new toilet/shower block doesn't seem to have priority to finish it any more, it is nowhere near completion and not having any guttering the runoff water from the roof flooded the pitch near to it. The grass between pitches was on the long side. The toilets were good and heated but tell tale signs of cobwebs and dirty old mop and water told a story. Some tiles dropped off the shower wall and the shower was closed temporarily, there was however another shower. There is daytime road noise from the nearby 'B' road but it is quiet overnight. The distant views of Wenlock Edge are beautiful and some trees at the bottom of the site have been removed to open up the view but the scar marks left by their removal have not been repaired, which again with a covering of top soil and seed is not to difficult. The site directions are very easy. The main road from Much Wenlock to Church Stretton, surprisingly does not have a bus route so the location may not be convenient for MH’s. The ‘7’ site pitches were full most of the week so there is quite an income to the owners from this evidence at £15 per night and not £13 as on the club website. I’m not sure why the need for a new shower block, but plans has come to a stop and this was mentioned in a site report of 2 years ago. I did meet the owner very briefly when paying on the day of departure, the emphasis on the word briefly. I had to pay by handing the payment through the window and words were of a minimum and the window was shut. This cl has all the facilities and the location is very central to this beautiful area. It was such a pity, it could have been much better with very little effort.

Very Good Site

We arrived on a Friday evening and were allowed to pitch in any vacant spot, the owners were very friendly and polite , the toilet and shower block was immaculate. Due to heavy rain, the site was a little heavy underfoot, but this is expected and explained on arrival and you are asked to park on the hardstanding in front of your pitch. Overall, the site is very clean, peaceful with excellent views, with two village pubs serving nice food within a 10 minute drive from the site. A trip to Ludlow was very delightful and very much recommended. Would I return again, it is a definite yes !!! Certainly value for money,,, Thank you to the owners for a very enjoyable stay,

Not so bad

Arrived at this CL on spec as we often do, looking for an overnight stop. Had we read the previous review, we may have driven on by but it seems that improvements have been made since. Yes, there is an unfinished outbuilding but the site itself is tidy, in fact the grass was being mown when we arrived, and was short anyway. The toilets and showers are clean and in a well maintained building which appears to be attached to the owners house. We received a friendly welcome and were told about footpaths in the area where we could walk the dog.
