Ease of arrival/welcome

Pros: scenery, peace and quiet. Cons: slope

This must be one of the most remote CLs in the network. For us it is a two day drive from home. But you are rewarded for your efforts. The CL is entirely grass with a tarmac road leading into it. The whole CL is on a slope – sufficiently steep for larger motorvans to struggle to get level. Despite the remoteness the access is good and the gateway wide enough for any outfit. Facilities are basic: fresh water, chemical point, bins and a very warm welcome from the owner. The CL is the last property along a 2 mile tarmacked lane that runs the length of this valley. There’s nothing after the CL other than a dirt track for the farmer to get to the mountain. Sea eagles and golden eagles nest within a few miles of the CL. We saw a pair of sea eagles regularly from the van and they occasionally landed in the next field. Where else can you see sea eagles at such close quarters from a van? Scenery is grand in scale and goes on and on for miles: mountains, moorland and seascape. The port of Uig is only 10 minutes’ drive north and must be the most picturesque port I’ve visited. The nearest supermarket is at Portree which is about 20 minutes’ drive south. We made the mistake of not allowing enough time on Skye. We had some ideal wee beastie weather but weren’t bothered by them on the CL itself though did encounter them when we went for a walk along the river near the CL.
