Appearances can be deceiving

After traversing a very bumpy and rutted track* to access the CL, we found just one other unit - late July, on what was a very well kept site. Alarms bells should have started ringing at this point. The site is well kept - with HUGE pitches; the owner, who was very pleasant and welcoming, said we could pitch anywhere in the spacious grounds that our hook up cable allowed. We choose a hard-standing pitch, given the weather wasnt great. While water wasn't far away, the CDP was a hell of a trek as it turned out. The furthest ive ever known if im honest. This 'niggle' aside, as a camp site, it (The single loo/shower was also here, but of no importance as we use our own facilities). The 'alarm bells' - while mentioned in other reviews - was the noise. While the site is on a 'country lane', this lane is the main link between the towns and villages of the New Forest, and nearby Lymington on the coast. Hence the traffic is constant. Throw in that there is some kind of skip-hire place bang over the road resulting in wagons entering and leaving - clanking as they go, maybe 20 times a day, and you realise why this otherwise excellent CL in a popular location, has barely any customers in July. This road noise starts around 6.30 am weekdays. Some say the noise doesnt bother them. If you are deaf, or out all day, as the people from the adjacent unit were, its probably not an issue. To compound this noise the owners have no control over; given the very neat expansive hedges do not cut themselves (that appear to be done almost fortnightly, such is their precision - grass as well), the owner chose/had to? started trimming them on the first sunny day after our arrival. So we had the hedgecutter to contend with on the noise front as well! It really is a shame, as visually and for space, you cannot top this site. But if peace and quiet is your thing, you should look elsewhere, or buy ear-plugs prior to arriving at this CL. * just why the access track is akin to a stoney river bed is beyond me, given the pristine grounds it leads to?! It has to belong to the site, as past the site the track is maintained. If you do brave the noise, dont eat at the New Wheel Pub just down the road! Some of the food is poor. So its a lottery as to what you may get!

EXCELLENT SITE

The site was easy to find but follow the owners instructions, not SATNAV or you will be on some very narrow road!!! Reception was very welcoming and the field is flat and well mowed and the tall hedges trimmed to perfection. Plenty of room for each visitor. Nice and quiet with very little road noise. WILL DEFINITELY VISIT AGAIN. Great for the Lymington Saturday Street Market.

A site to visit

On arrival we were welcomed by the owner who was happy to give me a tour. The site was absolutely lovely, well cut grass, and hedges ,very clean. The local area is breathtaking and so many places to visit and see. I’m so glad the review about ,a particular dog running around didn’t stop me visiting. Definitely a return for us. A credit to the owners

A Quite Fantastic Hidden Gem

Just had yet another fantastic week at this quite wonderful site at Green Pastures. Always a warm welcome by Sue or Oliver. In essence a quintessential example of a perfect CL site. More like staying in someone’s cherished, well kept garden rather than a CL Site. Towns/villages/moorlands in easy reach. Dogs are made very welcome and in the twelve years of going to Green Pastures have never seen a badly behaved dog on site. Due to age related issues am sad to say that this was our last visit to this lovely hidden gem. Thanks again Sue and Oliver. Dave & Heather Hutchinson

Coronation break

We're just coming to the end of a lovely week at this well kept site. Firstly, we met Poppy the jack russell (see earlier review) - no longer a puppy, but still ranging at will across the site last weekend, whether other guests liked it or not. Either she & her owners are regular visitors or we were just unlucky. Apart from that the site is generally quiet with occasional noise from traffic on the lane. Good hardstanding pitches or you can pitch wherever and however you like on the grass, the only restriction being the length of your electric cable. Easy access from the road but the driveway has some pot holes to watch out for. Local lanes are generally safe for cycling, with the forest and coast both easily accessible - just be prepared for the hills! Can recommend both Monkey Brewhouse and Brew Forest microbrewerys. We'll certainly return, as there are plenty of other things to do in the area.

A fantastic and restful short break.

This is a stunning and peaceful little site. Right in the New Forest, just 5 minutes to all the natural beauty and walking you could ever want. Oliver met us on arrival and showed us around, we picked the smaller field with two pitches and ended up having it to ourselves, it is right by the lane, and there is some road noise, we noticed it more in the morning, but there was no disruption at all and we hardly noticed it after the first day. The grass is well kept and mown, and our two young cocker spaniels loved their first experience of Caravanning.. There is a small but perfectly maintained shower and toilet, and the chemical disposal is well away from the pitches. We loved every minute of our stay and wished we’d book for longer, we’ve already booked again and can see ourselves using Green Pastures as our go to long weekend getaway. Highly recommended.

First class site and owners

This CL is as far as we are concerned the best ! We had a warm welcome on arrival. Our choice of pitch was good lots of space around us. Toilet was kept very clean and so was the shower. I even bought a plant - there were a few plants outside the greenhouse with a post your money in the pipe which was novel. Well done Oliver we hope to return and spend more time there next year.

Green and Pleasant Pastures

From Olivers friendly welcome, to the well tended laws and hedges, Green Pastures is definitely a first rate CL site. The New Forest is on your door step, Lymington just down the road, you have plenty to do and see. We had a smashing time. Thanks Oliver.

Great stay at a great CL.

Oliver welcomed us on arrival and advised us where we could pitch. The site is well maintained with easy access. The site is idealy situated for the New forest and the coast. The site has facilities with a shower and toilet,if required. (Not used by us, but looked clean and well presented. I'm sure we will be back soon.
