Not a CL experience

Booked 2 nights as break en route to Cornwall. Entrance extremely tight with lots of overhanging branches from trees. On arrival looked at the field in horror which had several, long term caravans which turned out to be workers from Hinckley Point. We were redirected to round “the back” where there was another caravan and a pond. Getting around the back was even tighter with the caravan being scratched by the crab apple tree branches. We were advised to pitch beside the pond, which definitely required the use of a motor mover. Once pitched, it was a very peaceful and the weather helped. Getting out was even worse, we were advised to go around the barn, past a shepherd’s hut another caravan and a tree. Wasn’t possible for the length of our outfit as we then had to turn a very tight right. Took us about 45 minutes to leave the site. On the plus side there is a very nice licensed restaurant on site, but in reality should not have taken our booking as they were unable to offer us the expected pitch on the CL field.

Site with a restaurant

This site is ideal for a short stay to see the area, (which is delightful for cycling.) The big plus of this site is a lovely restaurant and bar run by the owners. Food was gorgeous. We stayed in October and the grass site was cut and tidy. The bathroom was lovely but we did not use it because of 'Covid, preferring to use our own. We enjoyed the ambience of horses, geese and sheep in adjacent fields. The service station is indeed large but is right at the top of the field and we found it useful as it had a well stocked 'Budgens store.' There are other caravans nearer the service station, which are clean, tidy and well maintained, used occasionally by their owners. Those we met were friendly, and informative about the area. Larger units may find the entrance a bit tight. Being campervanners, we found the access easy. We would recommend this site as a quirky, unusual site for a few days, not as a place to spend your 2 weeks holiday.

Short stay

Stayed 7 nights here and not at the best time of year being October. We have an American RV 30 ft long and 9 ft wide. Whilst the drive is narrow and a tight turn into the site it was accessible without damage to site or vehicle by taking it slowly. The site does not have views but the owners, beautiful restaurant, igloo style pods in the garden and lovely polite happy young team made up for it. We had drinks in a beautiful conservatory tastefully decorated after returning from a long day exploring the area. The restaurant food whilst not extensive was delicious and locally sourced. The owner who also cooked in the restaurant was very pleasant and their family pet dog was so comical we could have taken him home. We certainly recommend a visit to this site and hope to revisit ourselves in the not too distant future.

As good as a club owned site

Wonderful open site with large well mown grass area. Ideal for children to play games. Toilets are provided and are clean. Extensive alterations from main road make entry easy. There is some noise from traffic on main road but it does not intrude and is soon forgotton about. Rare breed pigs kept - the sausages are to die for. Glad we found this CL and will definately be visiting again. Peter Darkin 001555534

Never again

Be aware. This site is very difficult to access. Narrow drive and sharp right hand turn into field. Managed to get through the gate just, but had a car parked to close to the entrance point. Trying to avoid the car the back of our van scraped along a pallet left by the gate, result 3ft dent. Uncemp field. 2 vans parked permanently, working men. We were parkek 9ft from toilet block on our n/s. Main A39 only 150 year from site. Field is also used as a carpark for other people. Leaving the site was as hard as getting in. The couple in the van next to us also said they would not use the site again.

IF ONLY WE HAD READ THE REVIEWS

We made the mistake of not reading the reviews for this site before we booked. Access onto site was very poor down a narrow lane with the gateway hampered by a horsebox.he site looked like a traveller site with at least one abandoned car, the horsebox, stacks of pallets, numerous weed-beds and two rigs being occupied by travelling workmen. There were already seven rigs on site when we arrived at 15.00 hours and a ninth arrived shortly after us. The seven rigs were tightly grouped in one corner of the site with the 6 metre rule totally ignored. Site directory entry for this location says its 2 acres but more that half of the area was unusable due to long grass and thistles; the usable part of the site had not been mowed for several days. All of the working available (4) EHUs were in use. The site was noisy due to close proximity to a main road and the surrounding area was scruffy. If you was a quite well managed CL the avoid this one.

Never again

Access towing is extremely tight from single track road into a rough lane that I question the width of! Overhanging branches scrapping the sides as you go along. Access to site itself is gained by driving up & around the orchard & coming back past the house to get a straight drive in. Might be better for a small camper van but NOT recommended with a largish van. I can only wonder at what form of transport the Site Inspector uses if they feel this access is suitable! Site itself is very disappointing! Large field with all the hook up's stuck down in one corner & very tight together making me wonder how much space between outfits would be available with 5 units plugged in? Grass in need of a mower & geese droppings everywhere! Not good! Situated right beside a very busy main road which seems to be carrying construction traffic for the new Hinckley Power Station 24 hours a day. Would we use again?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Difficult access

Twisty access drive, scraping van sides, then a sharp right hand turn into the field, except there's no way you CAN turn into the field as the driveway trees & bushes make it too tight. You need to turn left in front of the house, then reverse through the gateway, & reverse out the gateway when leaving! Nice big field, but electric all in the corner. Some road noise. Sheep & goose poo everywhere. Nice loo van.  Then there was the wedding on Saturday - the CL turned into a car park with cars parked right in front of & beside our van, leaving late into the night, & some back early in the morning to collect the cars they'd left the night before. No notice or warning to us. Perhaps they thought we wouldn't notice?  Not recommended.

Unkempt, terrible access and noisy road

Really awful approach driveway with overhanging bushes and trees scraping both sides and roof of van. Had to reverse several times to get into field covered in sheep poo, noisy road alongside and traffic all night. All electric points in one corner so the spacious field is of no use. Surprisingly good toilet facilities but would not recommend to anyone who cares about their unit. We were in a panel can under 6m and 2.2m wide by the way so heaven help anyone towing a long or wide caravan. Nowhere near the 12ft width required access required in the cc regs.
