A Peaceful Haven

Stayed here for 4 nights in early August 2021. A very warm welcome from the hosts. Incredibly peaceful sight close to Buxton Heath and its natural wonders. Great cycling country with miles and miles of quiet lanes just waiting to be explored. Yes the site is quite sandy - it's outdoors and is next to a heathland. The sandiness is a very good thing as there were thundery showers when I was there and this meant that the site drained very quickly. Will definitely be back. Thanks very much.

Could be so much more

Please don't get me wrong, the site itself is lovely and I know we're not out of lockdown yet but........ The ground is very loose, sandy with hardly any grass to cover it, resulting in this horrible sandy mess being walked into the caravan and being horrible to get out, especially when wet. The close proximity of a working saw mill is disturbing during work hours. The access entrance is quite narrow and when booking in you have to leave your unit in the entrance, blocking access and egress to the site. Those are the negatives. The positive are that the site is in a stunning location in a beautiful part of the county, down wonderful country lanes and the owners are hugely helpful, friendly people. If it wasn't for that horrible sandy soul causing us to spend as much time cleaning as relaxing, it would be a fantastic site, giving it a much higher rating.

Few days away in June 2017

We stayed here on the CL site for a couple of nights during very hot weather. We had the choice of staying on the CL site or the commercial site by the lakes but decided on the CL. We had intended to do some fishing but the weather was so hot that we didn't really do anything. We walked round the lakes and it was a little cooler by the water. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and willing to help with local knowledge etc. Unfortunately the bus stop was just a little too far to walk to. Met some lovely fellow campers on the site most of who were new to the site like us. The site is an open field with plenty of room for pitching which meant you could have your privacy but at the same time see and speak to your neighbours. There is a toilet and shower on site which was kept very clean. The lane outside the site was rather busy but fairly quiet at night. Quite a few large lorries during the day.

What a peaceful site

The site is an open flat field, with two electric points either side and one at the end, with the lane running along one side.   Access into the sites is limited by the width of the drive that is easily blocked by a car or unit stopping for reception, make sure it is clear before committing yourself or be prepared to reverse out of difficulty. Walking round the lakes and commercial sites is very pleasant.

Very Peacefuk

We came for a 6 day break and when we booked were unaware that were two different sites- the caravan club CL and the more "commercial site". For £1 more we decided to pitch on the site adjacent to the lakes and weren't disappointed. It's so peaceful here with lots of wildlife and a great walk around the lakes on site. We had a pitch with hook up, but some pitches are seasonal (no hook up) and a couple have static caravans on them. The owner is extremely friendly and we are looking to come again for Whitsun Week in May. Our only quibble is the one waster tap and waste disposal for the whole site which is several acres (not the CL as this is separately situated). However, the peace and tranquility far outweigh this one negative point.

Very Nice CL

Lovely spacious site, the owners are very welcoming and helpful toilet/showers are well maintained and clean. If you like fishing the lakes are a short walk away and well stocked. To get to Buxton Heath you go past the lakes where you can walk for hours and look at the amazing array of wildlife including wild pony’s, if you wish to go further then the Broads are only a few miles. For provisions Aylsham has just about everything you may need. We would visit this site again.

Enjoyed our stay

What a lovely site! Very spacious, welcoming owners, shower and toilet. Delightful walks through larger site and fishing ponds onto common land. Easy access to the coast and NT properties, although we were actually visiting friends locally. Only complaint - spent some considerable time trying to contact the owners this year to book again, tried via phone, ansafone, email, no response at all, until finally got a message to say they were closed at the moment - disappointing but found another lovely site locally!

Little Gem

Booked this CL as we were going for 6 days with our son and daughter in law plus grandson so wanted a site with access to toilet and shower (would have spent all day waiting around if we only used the van facilities!!!) The shower is charged at 50p, but by doing this the owner has not increased the pitch fee, therefore those who use just the van are not penalised. There is only one shower and one loo, which was not a problem for us as there were only 2 vans on the site while we were there. It is a large level field and the ehu are spaced around the outside giving each pitch lots of room. There is a view over the pasture to the lake area which is a short walk from the CL. They do have a commercial site around the lakes, but this did not affect our stay. It was lovely to walk down the hill each day and discover a new route around the lakes, on the way seeing lots of wild life, and the fisher folk trying their best to outwit the fish, we think the fish won most days!! If you carry on through the pitch areas by the lake you come to the heath, which is home to wild ponies, we only saw them at a distance as they are shy, but we will try again when next we visit. The access to the site is down a narrow lane but if you follow the intructions it is ok. The owner is most welcoming and goes out of her way to make you feel at home, and everyone there always says hello and will stop for a quick chat. The CL is not far from Cromer, around 20 mins and the same from Wroxham, meaning that you can around the attractions without hours of driving. At £12.50 per night we think it was good value and it is our list to visit again next year, maybe more than once!!

Great CL if you want peace!

Lovely level CL with easy access. Toilet and shower are well maintained and there is another shower available at the nearby commercial site. You have to feed a coin meter for your shower (which I dislike as you would be using water and electricity if you were showering in your van) but you are paying for the extra space and privacy away from your children! Highly recommend this CL, well above average....

Great CL Site in Norfolk

Just back home after 8 days with my family. The CL site is peaceful, well kept with good clean toilet and shower facilities. Not the easiest of roads to drag your caravan down, but well worth it. Fishing lakes on site, great for the kids,, near the coast, Cromer is 13 miles away and the Norfolk Broads about 10 miles. Aylsham is the nearest large town 5 miles, served well by Tesco and a Budgens for your groceries and beer. You can also get the minature train into Wroxham from Aylsham, novel day out for the family, but mind your head. We will definitely be using this site again. The family that run the site are extremely welcoming and friendly, they will even order daily papers for you if you wish. All in all this is one of the best kept, spacious CL's we have ever been on, plenty of room for the kids to play away from the caravans, we can't recommend it highly enough for families. .
