2 WEEKS IN JULY 2020

The site is in a great location, although there is some road noise from the A12 and farm traffic on the road beside the site. We paid £20 per night, which is the most expensive CL we have ever used. The facilities are good, but because the pitch we booked was being resown we did not have our own water supply. I would agree with many of the reviews concerning the access to a variety of places to visit, both on the coast and inland. Please note that a couple of the hardstandings pitches are very large and may cause problems when driving in awning pegs. Would I stay there again, probably not.

Lovely site in great location for exploring

We originally intended to stay on the CL, but as that was fully booked Jaik suggested one of the pitches in his adjacent six van commercial site. We would have been very happy in either location - pitches have more space in the CL (better for larger outfits), but the commercial part is cosier and more sheltered from wind. However the CL costs £18 per night and the commercial section costs £23. If planning to stay in the commercial section it would be wise to tell Jaik if you have a long outfit as two of the pitches would not be an easy fit. Ground is generally reasonably level and appeared well drained. There is a toilet and shower in the commercial site, but that is easily accessed by people from the CL if they chose. We did not use those facilities because of Covid. TV reception is excellent and WiFi generally good, although it did struggle at peak, mid-evening times. There is a convenient dog walk around some woodland behind the site. Access is straightforward, although longer outfits need to take care at the entrance. This was our first visit to Suffolk and we were pleased to have chosen to stay at this site - it is well located for exploring the area, with many excellent pubs serving top quality food and mostly with very good Covid arrangements. There are some excellent beaches and coastal towns to explore as well as Sutton Hoo (National Trust) reasonably nearby. One highlight for us was a 4 hour trip on the traditional sailing barge Victor from Ipswich. That was an amazing experience on a beautiful sunny day. There is a brilliant bakery / cafe called the Two Magpies, one mile away up the A12. We could easily have spent a second week here - thank you Jaik. (The fresh laid eggs were very tasty.....)

Great CL in a great location

We stayed here after Christmas and over New Year. The hard standings were great with each pitch having 16 amp hookup and individual water supply. Jaik the owner made us very welcome and provided us with a detailed information sheet for the area. The site has great facilities and is well kept. It's a great location for Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.

Lovely site

We have just got back from our Christmas stay, the owner was very pleasant and welcoming. The site was very clean and tidy, with some extra facilities which a small extra charge would be incurred. However we on this occasion didn’t require to use them, shower washing machine. The site is perfectly positioned to access the Suffolk coast. And the villages along it. I will use this site again, suited my family plus dogs. Will be back

Great location for a late Autumn break

Last few days in October: We deliberately chose this site has it offered hard standing areas - which was much needed after so much rain. The only draw back of the hardstanding (and it was very hard) was that we needed to encroach upon the adjacent grassed area to pitch our awning -but Jaik the owner was very accommodating. For such a small site the facilities were good and very clean and although close to the A12, we didn't notice much noise. There was also a handy dog walk for morning constitutionals! The other reason for choosing this site was its location - easy access to Dunwich - great for a walk and a fish and chips lunch in the cafe on the beach, Dulwich Heath and Southwold. All in all we had a great few days and would certainly go back.

A decent, clean and honest CL.

There's not much to add to all of the comments & reviews already posted. The facilities are all well maintained and cleaned daily although we used our own shower during our stay. We thought the extra charge for a hot shower was a bit much and may have been better if included in the daily price. The pitches are all of a good size and offered plenty of room to stretch out, however the grass pitch even though it had mesh protection was quite badly churned up and a couple of caravans did struggle to get on and off. This of course it not the owners fault as any grass pitches would have suffered a similar fate after the recent deluges. It's also worth mentioning about the road noise from the A12. We did expect to hear some as we knew of the CL's location but never expect it to be so loud and constant! But after a few days we did get used to it but it was a shock on our first night!

Wonderful relaxing site

We have been to this area several times but this was our first visit to Hill Farm. Jaik came straight out and met us when we arrived and was a very warm welcome, and we were given handy information pack. The site was immediately impressive, very clean and tidy and spacious between pitches. The showers and toilets were spotlessly clean and there’s also a washing machine. We’ve had a wonderful stay and to be honest this is the best site we’ve been to in Suffolk. Will 100% be back. Thank you Jaik.

Fabulous place. Would definitely reccommend. I will be returning in the future.

A wonderful CL site expertly looked after by the owner Jaik Campbell who gave us a very warm reception and a detailed welcome information pack. Located just off the A12. There are 4 hardstanding pitches which are covered with stone/pebbles and 1 grass pitch. All areas have plenty of grass space around for awnings. Field is surrounded by mature bushes and trees which are kept trimmed and tidy. ALL pitches have 16amp power and their own fresh water supply. In addition to this there is a wooden construction which houses a WC with separate shower and changing room. Shower is great and has a very small fee to use. 20p for 3 minutes. There is a general waste bin along with separate containers for glass and plastics and cardboard. The other side is where you dispose chemical waste. A clothes washing machine has also been installed and there are 2 rotary lines for you to use if you wish. We loved this site so much we stayed an extra 2 nights (making 6 in total) and will definitely be returning when we are in the Suffolk area. The area is excellent for cycling. The beach at Dunwich is a mere 5 miles away which has a great pub with large garden and a very interesting museum about the lost village. RSPB Minsmere is also very close by. The location of the site is perfect for exploring Southwold, Thorpeness, Saxmundham, Woodbridge, Halesworth, Ipswich and the beautiful resort of Aldeburgh where you can buy the daily catch from one of the many fisherman's huts. 'If it was any fresher, it would still be swimming' is one of their quotes!

Nice CL, in stage of development.

We really liked Suffolk and Jaik was very pleasant and welcoming. There are a few things we would say as feedback to help with ongoing plans and development of this CL. We had a good stay however we were the last of 5 campers and were on (1 of 2) tarmac covered pitches, which was not ideal. We feel pebbles/ stones would be better for the sites ambition to be open all year. Even in April Tar on shoes and items were an issue and if we wanted to put up an awning it would have to be erected on the grass as pegs would further damage the surface. This site offers lots of facilities, which were ok but we use are own in CLs. BIG PLUS was a good 16A supply and own water tap, which made it like a super pitch. Resident chickens were endless fun too. Main entrances to the CL is a little tight, newly planted hedges I believe will need a rethink. Wifi is a lovely bonus but is a little flaky and is ok when you can connect. Positioning for Southwold was very good, lots to see in the local area, main road was good without being noisy. We would return again as Jaik is a lovely chap who we believe is trying to provide a great value CL but would request any of the three non tarmac cover pitches. The focus should be stones for pitches to allow all year round use and pitching of awnings. The electric and water are spot on and the position and overall feel good.

Good CL open all year

Very easy access into this site from the A12 and the information given by the owner prior to arrival via e mail is most helpful and informative. Very good TV and mobile phone signals, together with the free wi-fi that is available to all pitches. Currently there a four hard-standing pitches and one grass. All are level and have the benefit of their own dedicated water tap and 16amp electric supply. The site is within easy driving range of Southwold, Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings and the owners are happy to provide information about the many attractions of the surrounding area. The on site facilities of WC and shower room (with small extra charge for the shower) are adequate, if not top quality but are an added bonus on a CL site. We stayed for four nights and would recommend it to people visiting that part of the Suffolk countryside.
