This site should not have been open after so much rain

Sadly this “gem of a site” as previously reviewed should not have been open over Easter 2023. The 2 hard standing pitches were all mud on old shingle and we had to negotiate large thick mud puddles on the driveway in and had difficulty getting out of the car on to dry land! After difficulty setting up we decided to manage without an awning but the sunshine and view cheered us up. There is good access to tourist attractions but when a motorhome became stuck attempting to get on to the adjacent grass pitch the damage adjacent our pitch was sad to see. Eventually they got off curtesy of strong men pushing and abandoned the attempt and booked a nearby site but at great expense. Frankly I feel sorry for the owner of the cl and the whole site needs remedial action and to be allowed to dry out for summer use.

Little Gem of a site

Just spent a glorious Easter weekend at this Gem of a CL site. Regular visitors so special we just keep coming back. Melsey Smith

Quiet and secluded with beautiful views

This little site is just off a very quiet country lane with peaceful views across the rolling Kent countryside. The pitches are well organised with access to the two hardstandings clearly marked. The owners are very friendly and booking by telephone was simple and straightforward. Dunegess, which we visited in between our two overnights, is just a 20 minute drive away, yet it seems a world apart from the rest of the country. We look forward to coming back to this site in the summer when we can just sit and relax outside and enjoy this beautuful tranquil location.

Lovely little CL.

Second time here. Jan 2022. Only ones here until today. Easy access to Rye. Great fish and chips at Mariano’s in Rye. Eat in or takeout every day. Lots of history in Rye and walks too out at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Tenterden not far. Interesting independent shops and the steam railway too. Visited the Black Lion in Appledore. A short walk (20mins) to it so able to have a beer. Footpaths most of the way but a bit on road but was ok with a little care. Very pleasant atmosphere and excellent food at reasonable prices. Also enjoyed the local cider made just up the road and called Nightingales. Spectacular sunsets from field. Love it here. Beautiful scenery all around and we’ll be back.

Lovely peaceful site

Lovely peaceful site with plenty of space between pitches, next to a field of sheep and with beautiful sunsets over the Kent countryside. For this price on a CL there are of course no toilet or shower. Just be aware that dog walking is on the roadside with no footpath which, while not busy, is quite fast.

Our happy place!

Hole Farm is a wonderful place to escape to. It’s beautiful, tranquil and exactly what we needed in the middle of a busy month. The site is well maintained and ‘green’ with food waste boxes provided as well as green and black waste bags. The village is a 30 minute walk away and treats await - tea shop, pub with wholesome food and interesting antiques. Lots of great walks nearby too. Or you could stay put and enjoy the sheep, the sunsets and the owls. We will be going more regularly now it’s all permitted again. Our three days felt like a week. Glorious.

A little Gem

This was our 2nd stay at Hole Farm, Fri 4th- mon 7th October 2019. Introduced our friends to this beautiful, peaceful quiet site. The sunsets are amazing. We will definitely be returning, charming setting and charming owners. Melsey 60

Perfect for exploring Romney Marshes

This CL is perfectly located to walk and cycle in the area, the Marshes are full of wildlife and there are loads of footpaths and quiet lanes. This CL reminded us about why we choose the quiet sites, it was so peaceful, West facing for fabulous sunsets and such a treat to stay on this farming land, being so close to nature, the tawny owls all around when the light fades - fantastic! The Ferry Inn and the Black Lion pubs are within easy reach, you can enjoy a pint in the evening sunshine at both. The nature reserve at Rye is stunning, put your boots on and find Camber Castle, it can only be reached by foot or cycling, well worth it - it’s only open once a month but the views and setting are worth it anyway.

Precisely What a CL Should Be

We have stayed here a few times now. The site has plenty of room for five outfits, including two all-weather pitches and is situated a few hundred yards from the farmhouse. A slight slope up from front to back, but levelling blocks are not always necessary. The main aspect is to the west, with delightful sunsets and the east boundary is mature trees. Good water pressure, plus cesspool disposal with a separate hose for washing down. Rubbish bins are in the small building at the site entrance. The location is prime for Romney Marsh and the higher levels overlooking it and the quiet spots of the Royal Military Canal are but a short drive away. The owners are working farmers and are invariably busy. The farmhouse is the bungalow down Moor Lane. I have to say that as a CL Hole Farm has everything that a caravan owner might expect in terms of facilities and freedom from military rules. The fact that some members have to have special facilities for their units is perhaps best catered for on a Club site, rather than a typical CL, although I have seen others who get round their on-board problems by other means - or carry a hosereel with them. The local shop is about 20 minutes' walk away towards Appledore.
