Ease of arrival/welcome

A bit disappointed

This site is very conveniently located just off the A515. The road passing the site leads down to Dovedale and is a busy road. If you are pitched close to the road it is quite noisy. The field slopes but there are lots of useful bits of wood around to help level the van. It is not clear what this site is, when we arrived we were confused by the three vans pitched at the top of the field and then there were at least three other pitches occupied. We phoned the farmer to ask where we should go and he was not very helpful. He told us not to go on Pitch 3 as someone had booked that as they were there for 10 days. Our stay was for two weeks. In the end we chose pitch 4. It was not clear to us that a public footpath runs through the site, between pitches 3 & 4, had we pitched where the no 4 is located the many walkers would have had to walk through our awning to keep to the footpath. We were very tempted to put a ‘if you can read this sign you are too close to our awning’ sign up as some walkers were clearly fascinated by us strange caravaners and could not resist staring. My advice, avoid pitch 4! During our stay, on some occasions there were as many as 11 vans on site. The field is large though but because of Covid we had chosen small 5 van farm sites and the over booking of this site annoyed me. This was also the only site during our month away during the Covid -19 Pandemic that made no provision for the safety of its guests. Every other CL had bacterial spray or hand gel around the bin store and water taps. This is a lovely part of the world. And apart from the noisy road , the walkers and being under the flight path of East Midlands Airport we had a very enjoyable stay.
