Horn House Farm CL, Abbeytown, Cumbria....the Bees Knees.

This excellent site, with it's EHU, huge pitches, of which there are 4 Hardstanding, and 3 grass ones, so plenty of choice, has one of the best toilet block that we've encountered on any CL, with 1 toilet, a separate shower room, and a third room with both a toilet and shower and which is specially adapted for the disabled, all having their own wash hand basin with hot water and all included in the site price of £14 pn. The peaceful site is easily accessed, being about 100 yds up a farm drive, off the B5302 Wigton/Silloth road, just outside the village of Abbeytown, with it's Holme Cultrum Cistertcian Abbey, and has great views across to the Back of Skiddaw and the other Northern Fells. There is a pub in the village that serves food and also a small store, suitable for essentials such as milk and the daily papers!! There are bus stops close to the farm drive with hourly services to Silloth one way and Wigton & Carlisle the other. For general/food shopping there is a Lidl and a Co-op in Wigton about 7 mls away. The site is ideal for exploring the Cumbrian Solway coast and there are a number of nature reserves close by, including the RSPB's Campfield Reserve. The one drawback for those with dogs is that there is limited places to walk them, unless one ventures onto the main road and the 50 yds of verge before the pavement into the village. The friendly owner is keen to chat and a font of knowledge about the area, has worked very hard to maintain a very well kept site. Definitely worth a return visit.
