Nice enough site – could be better

Stayed here for two weeks in July. Quite expensive for a CL with what I regard as basic facilities but there is a shower and toilet on site. At £18 per night I would expect serviced pitches but all you get is a basic hardstanding pitch with only 10amp electric. The grass is only cut once a pitch is vacated, so in the two weeks we were there the grass around our pitch was never mown. The site is next to some craft workshops and you look onto the back of them which is a bit of a scrap yard, could do with some better fencing to hide this as it really spoils the site. Every other Sunday there is a Car Boot Sale in the field behind the site and all the people and cars visiting this vacate through the centre of the site, although the owner does rope off the road (driving over your electric hook-up lead if you are unfortunate enough to be on the pitch we were on, a rubber cable protector is provided but it’s held together with Duck Tape - it was cancelled when we were there due to bad weather). The village pub is OK and only a short walk. No phone signal on most networks. Fairly good location for visiting the area. Nice enough site but could be so much better especially at the prices charged.

Comment from The Club
Many thanks for your review.  The CL owners have been in touch as they want to address your concerns as they make every effort to ensure people have the best possible stay at their site.

" I would like to thank Vals2904 for the comments regarding Hutton-le-Hole CL.  We always listen to comments both good and bad and are continually trying to improve our CL Site.
However I would like to clarify some points in the above review.
We have five level hard standing pitches with 10amp electric hook ups, the price is £18 per night as advertised in the Caravan Club Handbook and on their Website.  We do not claim to have serviced pitches.
It is our policy to cut the grass around the pitches only when vacated.  This is to avoid the inconvenience to the Caravanner of moving cables, awning supports, tables, chairs etc.  If a member would like the grass cutting arouund their pitch we are happy to do this and we now display a sign in the washing up area clearly explaining this.
The private compound to the rear of Vals2904 pitch is a store for a working fork lift (1974), box trailer, a roller and various bags of sand, gravel and general building supplies and equipment.  This is there to enable us to carry out our own property and caravan site maintenance.
I have taken Vals2904 comments on board and have improved the existing 5ft high paling fence to make it more solid.
We hold approximately 10-12 Car Boot Sales a year - they are not every fortnight as the member was led to believe.  Everyone is informed when making a booking if a Car Boot Sale is on during their stay.   We always make sure that the Caravanners cable is not on the road when the Car Boot Sale is on.
I am sorry that Vals2904 did not enjoy our stay with us and I feel that raising these points as they occur on site means that issues can usually be resolved quickly and in most cases quite easily."

Thank you for leaving your review and I hope this addresses some of your concerns.

Just perfect

The start of our North Yorkshire Tour, what a good start. This little site is lovely, it has everything. Views, walking, a local pub and cafes on its doorstep and a warm welcome. All the pitches are hard standings, with plenty of lawn around for sitting out. There are toilets, a shower and a small kitchen for washing up. The site owner is very helpful and friendly. We had lovely weather in this idyllic moorland village and could have stayed much longer than the week we'd booked. The walk to Lastingham is great, another pretty village, with a lovely friendly pub. The church with its crypt is not to be missed.  No phone signal at the site but The Crown has free Wi Fi, what a good excuse to call there after a day walking over the moors. We can't wait to return......

Great site

Our first stay at this lovely small site. Made very welcome.  Only one small downside bit cold to get a shower! It was however the middle of winter and temperature was downto -1.  Highly recommend site as easy reach to many beautiful places of interest.

Another excellent week

Just spent another excellent week at this lovely site - definitely one of our favourites. The village is just as lovely, the pub food just as good as ever and the weather was very good to us too. Just a couple of weeks too early for the daffodils in Farndale, but they should be coming into full bloom any time now. Well worth a visit!

Brilliant CL

We've just arrived home from our second week at Hutton Le Hole this year - and we enjoyed our stay this time just as much as we did in May. Half way through the stay we met up with family for the weekend, and enjoyed a lovely barbecue on site. Excellent food in the local pubs (Hutton Le Hole, Lastingham and Appleton Le Moors), delicious home made ice cream and cream teas in the village, excellent craft shops and chocolate factory, and numerous local walks in beautiful scenery - what more could you ask for? To top it all, it's only a short drive to Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby too.  It's also extremely easy to find with no access issues, even for our large outfit.  All in all one of our favourite CLs, and we hope to be back many more times in the future.

Fabulous site!

We stayed here in our motorhome, towing a smart car, in July. From the moment we arrived the owners could not have been more helpful, helping with water and giving us great ideas for walking, meals out etc. This was lovely as the weather was very hot and we were able to take the dogs to a shady wood nearby for a good walk. The site is well laid out with very useful trees dotted around so you can sit in the shade. The pitches are hard standing and a good size. The facilities are outstanding! Very secure with key entry where you have a room for washing up and information, two large spotless toilets and a proper wetroom shower! It didnt matter what time of day you used them it was always immaculate. There is great dog walk just outside the site on the left which leads to fields and streams. To the right are tea rooms, ice cream shops and The Crown pub which does lovely lunches and evening meals. As has been mentioned there is no real phone signal in the village but that was a blessing really. One of Williams recommendations was The Blacksmiths Arms at Lastingham about 2 miles away with a beautiful garden to have a meal in,nice menu with good portions and friendly staff but the best for us was The Queens Head near Malton, only about 8 miles if you go across country, one side is a traditional pub but the other is an amazing Cantonese restaurant. The food was truly superb, freshly cooked and well presented, great for a takeaway but even better to eat in. All in all we had a wonderful time at this superb site and cannot wait to return in the Autumn to visit all the places we missed this time round.

Among the best we have visited

We spent a week here in May 2013 when the weather was not at its best! The CL is lovely, nice views, very well laid out with plenty of space and hard standings, the showers and toilets are great - very clean and spacious. The owner was very helpful offering advice on places to visit, of which there are many, including the Ryedale Folk Museum which is literally next door. The village of Hutton-le-Hole is extremely pretty but be warned it only has tea shops and a pub, there is nowhere to buy a newspaper of a pint of milk!

Great little CL

We've just spent another lovely 8 days in this superb adults only CL. You just need to take a little care at the entrance, but once in it's a great place to be. There was a rally on the field behind when we arrived, but the caravans were all parked right at the top of the field, well away from the CL site, and didn't bother us at all. We had a very peaceful and relaxing holiday, with some brilliant weather at the start of the week. Excellent food again in the Blacksmiths Arms at Lastingham, and also some excellent food in Hutton Le Hole's Crown - much better than last year, so certainly well worth the visit. Mobile phone reception is difficult in Hutton Le Hole, but the Crown provide free wifi, so it's easy to keep updated via email etc there. We love this site - and will be back again with the family in September,

One of our finest to date!

LocalPlacesOfInterest: Good access in high street; several village shops; good walking Site: very good, all HS; EHU, water and waste Facilities: water a bit difficult but everything else vg Off site: nice area, Ph 'The Crown' 100m; lots of walks in the area - well worth a return visit Although a bit 'pricey' for a CL it is obvious a lot of work has taken place here in respect of HS, but well worth a return visit.

Bit small and overlooked - on the pricey side

Used to use this site before it went adults only. Very small but with hardstandings. Very strict on arrival/leaving times. Very expensive for a CL. Overlooked by a rally field to the rear and a garden centre to the side. Tight access from a busy road (especially in summer months). More suited to mororhomes. Very little privacy
