Peaceful Flat Field

Arrived a little unsure at Big Black Locked Gates. No CL sign but a call to Richard and he gave us the code. No vans on site a huge flat field. Marked pitches with electric £22 all in. A good toilet block and shower though in need of some TLC. The views are good no problem looking at Drax Power Station. Follow the directions to avoid the village it can be very tight. Unfortunately the site entrance is past the house and no where for dogs to walk except back on the track to the road but it is very quiet. Some signs indicating the facilities would be useful. Heavy motorhomes vans vans could get bogged down when it’s wet. Richard is planning some hardstandings. It’s a relatively new CL and we enjoyed our stay.

A Great Welcome

We stayed for a weekend in September. As it says, the site is by farmers fields so after wet weather, expect some muddy puddles on the lane towards the entrance. The owner could not have been more welcoming and helpful. As it had been raining, he even gave us the choice of a hard-standing area by the CL site & moved his van to accommodate us, although the grass pitches looked absolutely fine. Great view of the Drax chimneys. There is a constant, low, background, type of humming noise to them; most probably the water running down them. Sadly, Drax are not offering public tours at the moment, only school tours and business tours. The local, social club was highly recommended to us by the owner & is definitely worth a visit. They were turning out some great pub food.  There is an electric shower in the Ladies that is £1 for 5 minutes; ample time. A sweet cart offering free fruit from the orchard was a very nice touch. A large, secure, gated entrance with security code was partly locked during our short stay.

Peaceful and relaxing.

We stayed last weekend in warm sunny weather, were able to sit outside and enjoy the tranquility of the birds tweeting. A lovely flat pitch made for an easy set up. A lovely site but a word of warning to other motorhomers, there is no drive over disposal point as stated on the CMC website.

EXTREMELY ENJOYABLE WEEKEND

We were lucky enough to book onto this fairly new CL site before it becomes too well known as I'm sure once it is it will be difficult to secure a pitch. The facilities on site are great. It is close to many areas of interest (driving if you aren't much of a walker). The power station is nearby and conducts tours. Something for our next visit as these are becoming part of history as several have now been demolished. We saw deer and a peacock! It was a very quiet and relaxing location. We had brilliant weather. The pitches have full sun all day. The icing on the cake though was the dog walks around the site. Our favourite being the one just outside the gates taking you across two fields, no hills, and emerging at the entrance to the Huntsman pub (about 15 mins if you're a slow walker like me). The food at the pub was delicious and the staff extremely helpful. Claire and Richard - the CL site owners couldn't have been more welcoming. Loved every minute
