Lovely site

Stayed here September 2020 with no issues. All very straightforward, we paid for the hard standing rather than CL, & that was the right decision. Lovely spacious pitch with area all around so didn’t feel enclosed. No issues at all & looking forward to returning.

Aggressive owners to the point I felt unsafe

I can only echo the previous review, this is not the place for a warm Welsh welcome or goodbye. We were late leaving our pitch (I hold my hands up, we got carried away enjoying the cycling the morning of our departure) but we weren't hideously late leaving, there were 3 available pitches and we left before check in time. The owner came over & periodically screamed (& I mean 2 inches from your face, spit flying everywhere screamed) at us at intervals as we hastily packed up. He then proceeded to rip our hook up out of the connection and throw it across the field. He also threatened to call the police ( I wasn't clear exactly what for) and other such pleasantries and expletives. Apparently we hadn't read the rules and weren't packing fast enough as he'd been checking on cctv....which is a worry in itself. That aside, the site is in a good location for accessing cycling trails however, there's a fair bit of road noise and a cattle grid which makes it noisy. The site has been 'automated' so there's no-one on site to ask any questions, the idea is that you read the rules and abide by them to the letter. The CL is part of a much bigger site and camping field. The bathrooms on the CL are actually for the whole site so there's a steady stream of people traipsing around, and a steady stream of people coming over to ask for the code for the showers. The advertised wifi is non-existent and there's no mobile signal, so it becomes even more impossible to contact the owners, which you get the impression is exactly how they like it. I can only assume that the owner is harbouring some pain and anger from elsewhere in his life as the magnitude of reaction to us not leaving at 11 on the dot was totally disproportionate. I'm a pretty level headed and easy going person but I definitely didn't feel safe in his company and wouldn't return.

Inadequate facilities and poor customer service

If you are looking forward to a warm Welsh welcome, you’ll be disappointed. There is no reception and nobody there to welcome you on arrival. The owner and his helper are abrupt and aggressive. We were so upset by the way we were spoken to and how unwelcome we felt that we very nearly turned around and went home. The site has inadequate facilities with just 3 unisex combined toilet/shower cubicles for the whole site – 5 grass (uneven), 12 hard standing and the camping field! These wet rooms have shower curtains which nobody uses and no hand drying facilities. The owner turns up briefly each day before and after his proper job to clean and provide some, but not enough, toilet paper. Facilities for Covid-19 infection control are inadequate, just a small sign on the noticeboard halfway down the site and a bottle of hand gel outside the toilet block. The only good thing about this site is the location in a quiet wooded valley within walking distance of the reservoirs and visitor centre. We are new to touring and no doubt will come across other poor sites but we won’t be returning here.

Great Location

CL is part of a bigger site known as Elan Oaks. The location at the entrance to the Elan Valley and reservoir system is great. Enter through the CL field, and beyond that are a number of spacious, hard standing, serviced pitches, all very level. Beyond that is a sloping camping field. The CL field is basically a mount, with level pitching only possible on the top section so vans need to pitch fairly close together. A small, modern toilet/shower block is located in the same area - very clean with combined toilet & shower cubicles, but only 3 or 4. Apart from some portaloos in the cámping field, that’s all there is for the whole site. The owner is in the progress of adding more serviced pitches and a new sanitation but work looks like it’s stalled for the time being. The Elan Valley Trail passes alongside the site and is level and tarmaced, great for walkers and cyclists alike. The visitor centre is about 0.5 mile and Rhayader about 2.5 miles. My preference would be for the hard standing section rather than CL area.

Lovely area , shame about owners dogs

Well kept site in a lovely area . Easy access to elan valley way . Several vans parked to take view in but asked to move as untidy , despite taking less room than caravan / awning /car combo .( no instructions re parking before hand ). Today owner visited site and his large lab , wee’d on an awning and put his head into another van and upset dog in there. No apology forthcoming. All visitors dogs on leads and well behaved . Should set an example or keep his dogs at home . Sheep roaming on site as well and one evening saw an employee throw stones at them while chasing them off site .

Llanfadog What A Gem Of A Site

Llanfadog is a gem a of site. The facilities are spotless and clean and the views are just fantastic. The local areas scenery is stunning. Access is good, but definitely don't go over the grid in the road or you would have difficultly with a caravan or motorhome. Overall a fantastic CL site and we will return.

Don't misinterpret the travel instructions.

The site is set in stunning scenery. Mike keeps the facilities spotless. Agreed these are currently available to other campsite users which would be hectic in summer but understand planning has been given for another toilet block. Be aware the site is opposite the Elan Valley Hotel, don't go over the cattle grid or it gets interesting with a caravan.

Well kept site

We were travelling with friends so there was two of us in motor homes. On arrival there was already 3 caravans there and as the field slopes down quite a bit we felt we were parked very close to them as they had spread out. Although they did offer to move over for us we felt as we were only there for 2 nights it would be unfair to let them. The grass was cut short, the facilities are excellent and kept very clean. It is not entirely true that they were for the exclusive use of the CL as the campsite next door were using them too so got quite busy and had to queue at times. Free wifi was a bonus. It is in a fantastic location, close to the visitor centre and reservoirs. Very peaceful, the only thing that spoiled it was the midges that came out in the evening.

Peace and tranquility

Beautiful CL with stunning views, the fields are perfect with clean toilets and showers and even access to the river if you want to paddle your feet ! There are numerous walks nearby as you walk through the village or toward the dam. The reservoirs are stunning and so is nearby Gigrin farm where the red kites are fed daily (closed to public on Monday though) in the afternoon. Our second visit but definitely not the last, TV and phone reception good with sockets at the EHU and great wifi.

So disappointed

We absolutely love this site and have been there a few times. We were so disappointed today that we could not book it for one night only . There was a space available but they preferred to have it booked for more nights . 😢😢😢 I can understand that from a financial point of view but if everyone did that we would no longer be a touring club . We bought our van to be able to tour and enjoy Britain . Sometimes we stay a few nights sometimes one night . That's the joy of touring .
